  1. I expect the Giants made a big push to get it done, and Breslow decided it was about as good an offer as was coming. Not that many teams could even afford to take on Devers's contract.
  2. Yeah, well, at the end of the day not many free agents turn down the highest offer.
  3. I don't know, man. A lot of people sure made a big deal out of Raffy's attitude the last few months. I think the team got backed into a corner by him. He was kind of thumbing his nose at them. That's not good when you have 8+ years left to pay him.
  4. It's not apples to apples but Detroit's guaranteed money was significantly more.
  5. Before the ground ball, he refused to play first base when the team asked him to. He bad-mouthed the people he works for. Absolving Devers here is ridiculous IMHO. He put the team in a terrible position.
  6. If J.P. is saying that, I'm pretty comfortable. Looking at it just as talent for talent is dumb anyway. Obviously we didn't win in terms of talent.
  7. Nah, that never comes true. Bregman took less money to come to Boston. Crochet signed to stay.
  8. I get what you're saying, and I don't think this is something they really wanted to do. I think Raffy's attitude was the reason this happened.
  9. Which can easily be characterized as covering for his player. If anything Cora seems to have gone out of his way to put a good light on Devers throughout all this.
  10. How can you say that without knowing what went on behind the scenes? I think Cora probably felt a little betrayed by Raffy's non-hustle. When did Cora ever bad-mouth Devers or anything like that?
  11. I don't think there were many buyers on those two. That was the biggest salary dump of all time.
  12. Disagree. Devers did NOT have much trade value. DH's making $31 million a year for the next 8 years just don't.
  13. Well, it's primarily a salary dump, no doubt about that. At least there's some possible value in the return.
  14. San Fran wanted to close on this. They wanted him in their lineup ASAP. Takes two to make a deal.
  15. Raffy iced it by not running to first base and making his manager have to cover for him. I suspect that was when Cora may have come on board with trading him.
  16. Nomar didn't pull any guns either. But that trade was absolutely the right move and worked out pretty good as I recall...
  17. a) They're 5th in MLB in runs scored per game. b) Bregman will be back. c) Hopefully Anthony and Mayer will contribute.
  18. I'm a little surprised at how many are backing Devers. He refused to play first base, he didn't hustle down the line, he's making $31 million a year, he's the good guy?
