    I'm willing to buy into a conspiracy theory that the Red Sox organization has bought in too much on purely data-driven approaches at the expense of other areas of the game. I'm even willing to agree that the Jim Rice incident was concerning.

    I get what you're saying, it sounds all too familiar, but I'm not sure what else he's supposed to say. He could go all Hal McRae, but I don't think that would accomplish much either.

    You're not really basing this on anything but old school beliefs. Rafaela has a bWAR of 1.8 and an fWAR of 1.1, so he's actually been a better than average player.

    We've handed out extensions to Bello, Rafaela, and Campbell, and at the present none of the 3 really make you feel comfortable they were good investments. It's quite possible Rafaela would be treated differently if it wasn't for the extension.

    That was the question with Bradley. And he reached a point where the minus of his hitting clearly outweighed the plus of the defense. Now it's the same question with Rafaela.
