  1. Yes, there's plenty to worry about.
  2. I would love to know what John Henry is thinking right now. He decided to exercise fiscal restraint at the same time that Cohen and Steinbrenner and the Phillies and the Padres and the Rangers decided to go on spending sprees like the end of the world is nigh.
  3. And every dollar they spend now is actually two dollars. And Steve Cohen don't care. He's like a guy who's already committed so many crimes that one more doesn't matter.
  4. That's for sure. I really wasn't expecting this offseason. It's been awful. Losing Bogaerts like we did, still no starting pitchers added while other teams are signing them on a daily basis. I'm kind of in shock.
  5. Weren't there concerns about the stress playing short would put on Story's arm as well? The guy adapted well to second. He seemed like a good fit there and the injury concerns were lessened. Now Bloom wants to put him right back at short. I'm scratching my head, man.
  6. I already said I have zero faith in him right now, especially after what he said about Story. The only thing I can figure is that they've decided to punt this year after all. What's really bad is punting or tanking is looking like a better idea all the time.
  7. The next free agent dominoes to fall are Eovaldi and Kluber. After that there isn't much. If Bloom doesn't sign either of those two, and doesn't make a significant trade for a starter...(fill in your own thoughts).
  8. We said it would be a flashpoint for him. Instead it's looking like a flushpoint.
  9. No freaking kidding, sir. It remains a mystery what our starting pitching upgrade will be, if any. All that's left in realistic targets are Kluber or a trade. We can forget Rodon and apparently they're not "engaged" with Eovaldi.
  10. Optimism is part of being a fan. Some of us have it even though it gets repeatedly crushed LOL
  11. I didn't laugh, I just thought a team that's 3 out at the deadline with some guys coming back from the IL owes it to the fans to give it a shot. This is a whole other scenario, because right now it feels like the team is trying to get worse instead of better. And now Bloom is talking about moving Story back to short and that his arm won't be a problem because of his range? The answer didn't even make sense. Bloom might redeem himself, but right now I have zero faith in him.
  12. If we tank in 2023, it'll be better for the future of the team, so why shouldn't we hope for a tank?
  13. I agree with your statement. As for the verdict on the trade, we can't leave out the differences in payroll costs.
  14. There are no good comps though, really.
  15. Fingers crossed that Wong makes the trade look a little better.
  16. You're right. Let's all drink a toast to the well earned ban hammering of JDavis76, one of the great moments on Talksox in 2022.
  17. Bloom pulled a Dombrowski with Yoshida, basically. He wanted the player so he was willing to make an offer he knew would seal the deal. Maybe Bloom estimated his bid would be 10-15% higher than anyone else's.
  18. What I'm saying is we'd know it by now. The $30 million insult is what the media is all over, I'm sure the Sox would correct that if they could...
  19. I'm well aware OPS is better. I seem to remember you extolling the virtues of OBP recently.
  20. They probably did the same thing as what you think they did with Lester. They never had intention of keeping either, and the rest was just for show.
  21. The Sox would have leaked it by now because it would make them look better, or they would have at least refuted that the $30 mill was the only offer. That's usually how it works.
  22. Very apt question. 2022 MLB 1B .324 DH .313
  23. They did finally offer him 6/162. I assume that was their max value for him. And it's a reasonable one.
  24. The scuttlebutt is that Xander was looking for Story-type money. I don't know where that came from.
  25. He also has a good OBP - .336 career, .334 in 2022 vs. MLB average of .312. I thought you liked OBP.
