  1. Maybe you'll be wrong about Stinkin too.
  2. Well, they might be.
  3. I can't see Bloom trading either one of them. It sounds like the Marlins were the ones asking for Casas in a deal for a pitcher, which makes sense.
  4. This could be done with actual projections now.
  5. They're never going to be like the Pirates. They have been doing some spending, after all. Yoshida, Jansen, Turner, Kluber, Smith. That's over 60 million in payroll this season.
  6. Not really. I don't think low expectations will be of any help at all to the front office if the team finishes about the same as 2022. They will be under siege. This is Red Sox fans we're talking about. We're nuts.
  7. I think the premise that Bogaerts would have accepted 6/162 before the season is a very plausible one. For one thing, he would be comparing it to what Story got. Bogaerts is a slightly better player who would be about one year older when the extension began. So 6/162 seems about right. And of course that's what the Sox finally did offer. So the only real question is whether they bungled, or whether they got the actual result they wanted, and weren't being "totally candid" about it with the public...
  8. But again, it seems exactly like what happened with Lester. We don't "know" that Lester would have accepted $110 mill or thereabouts before the 2015 season, but that's what was reported, and most people seem to accept that's the case.
  9. All I can surmise is that from the day Bloom was hired, or actually before, Henry envisioned a 4-5 year rebuild. And he knew that it might not go over well with the fans. And at some point they decided they might have to lie a little to get through the 4-5 years...
  10. This team's public image is terrible right now, there's no question about that.
  11. OK, but as we know, there are a lot of fluctuations in the business of sport. The Red Sox did made it to the ALCS in 2021. And if they make the playoffs in 2023, Bloom will be 2 for 4 in playoff appearances and suddenly assessments of him will look much better. Yes, that's a big if right now. But it does illustrate how fast things can change.
  12. My assumption is that the Red Sox could have signed Bogey to that 6/162 offer if they made it before the 2022 season. Which would make it very close to Story's deal. If we have to wait until the deal is over to pass judgment, we also have to do that with Story, Yoshida, or just about any signing, for that matter.
  13. The problem is that the Sox front office will never ever fess up on whether they really wanted to retain Bogaerts or not. As you know I am much more inclined to hold Henry responsible than Bloom. When an owner really wants to keep a guy he makes sure it happens, the way Hal did with Judge.
  14. You'll keep saying it was the return that was the mistake. Others will keep saying it was not locking him up before free agency. So we have a lot to look forward to here!
  15. The starting pitching will make or break us.
  16. Agreed. And the BTV analysis shows that Bloom did about as well as he could have on the Betts trade.
  17. The conventional wisdom in situations like this, of course, has been to trade the player at the deadline if out of contention. The ever-expanding playoffs have made the decision process a little muddier, as we saw with the Red Sox last year.
  18. 311 innings for the Red Sox that year. But it was reported that Theo was alarmed by his apparent lack of mobility, and the team did some of their own charting of Nomar's range that confirmed he wasn't moving well at all.
  19. No, Cabrera did make a difference. In the Yankee series we needed everyone to contribute, and he did.
  20. Most people liked that trade, though, and realized the Dodgers were doing us a favor.
  21. Yes, winning fixes everything, but the wisdom of our team and our ownership is thrown into question by the 5 last place finishes in the last 11 years.
  22. Again, the only thing that's been reported is that the Red Sox offered $30 million and one more year. If there had been a counter-offer from Boras we'd know about it. It appears that Bogey did the same thing as Lester, i.e. he ignored it.
  23. And this offseason is showing that they're really sticking to their guns about doing what isn't popular. Trading Devers would really put an exclamation point on it. Are they prepared to take the firestorm that would follow?
  24. Can you get retroactive BTV's?
