  1. I'm not really sure what your argument is any more. You said "the free agents Henry has shelled maybe a billion or so for over the years haven’t really done much". So I was agreeing with you that most were busts.
  2. Well, it's a little early to be pronouncing Cohen's spending orgy a brilliant success.
  3. Supposition is what we do here. I'm talking about Foulke, Dice-K, Drew, Lackey, Victorino, Price, JDM and others, and that's not even counting Mr. Duquette's prize free agent signing. That's pretty reasonable supposition.
  4. In the midst of all our griping this offseason, the story about the Red Sox negotiations with Devers at his home in the Dominican was actually pretty cool. Cora was there and when Devers first saw the offer his eyes got really big, according to Cora.
  5. Most have been busts, but if you jump in the way-back machine and undo all those signings, we would have fewer rings-maybe none.
  6. Yep, and the age difference Betts and Devers is 4 full years. That's a lot of years in relation to an MLB career.
  7. Sure, that's pretty obvious, but what's the big deal about it? To get under the tax threshold, Bloom had to trade Mookie and someone else making 10-15 million or whatever. It was convenient that he could get both things done in one deal.
  8. Ben created some large bills himself.
  9. If you're going to tank, you can't fool around.
  10. Bloom is like a kid in a candy store right now.
  11. Matt Moore is reportedly on the radar.
  12. Don't look now, but the Rays are actually starting to spend a little, too.
  13. He won't soon be forgotten.
  14. 27.7 career bWAR. Multiplying by 3 is about right for relievers, so that would be an 83 WAR.
  15. Yes, Theo did some finagling there. Didn't pay off but it was a nice try.
  16. Of course, Red Sox fans will remember that time Wagner didn't quite get the job done against the Halos, am I right?
  17. I agree Wagner should be in. His numbers are about as pristine as you could ask for.
  18. But even "the very best of the very best of the very best" is subject to interpretation. Should there only be 20-30 guys in it? If you leave his politics out of it, Schilling is a great example of a borderline case.
  19. I wouldn't call it babying him in 2021. He was in the pen all year and pitched 73.1 innings, most of any Sox reliever.
  20. "Jury's out" on Paxton.
  21. Qualifies as an exception, yes.
  22. Simple rules for GM's #27: Never trade a pitcher to the Rays. If they want him, it means he's better than you think, and you should keep him.
  23. Now here we have an interesting wager: who pitches more innings, Sale or Kluber.
  24. But Barnes would have to replaced in either case, whether or not another team signs him.
