  1. Personally I'm assuming that Bloom isn't done yet, but there's certainly a lot of potential for head-scratching alright.
  2. Bogey's deal with the Padres was actually announced within hours after the Yoshida signing. But I think the Yoshida signing was going to happen regardless. They scouted this guy for years. Sure hope they were right!
  3. All I can really say is that the Story signing and the Sale extension were very similar moves. Red flags did exist, we thought the red flags were an acceptable risk, and we were wrong.
  4. I'd say the replacement for Abreu was Turner. 2023 AAV Abreu 19.5 Turner 10.85 2022 WAR Abreu fWAR 3.9 bWAR 4.2 FUBAR 4.05 Turner fWAR 2.4 bWAR 2.0 FUBAR 2.2 Yoshida was more like a wild card pick.
  5. I don't think I said that or meant to imply it, sir!
  6. Bloom is the ever-patient tortoise.
  7. If he goes somewhere else for 2 * 12 or something like that, I'll puke.
  8. Can't we please just have Kike in CF and Andrus at SS?
  9. When exactly did Story choose rest and rehab?
  10. Well, there were reasons to question whether he was healthy at the end of 2018.
  11. Brasier is a classic example of the FUBAR conundrum!
  12. But Sale was cleared by the docs and pitched 147 innings and struck out 13.3 per 9. So the argument about "waiting a few months to see if Sale is healthy" doesn't hold up. He did look healthy after a few months.
  13. It seems like it's become a thing for position players too now...
  14. Using moon's suggestion the 2022 FUBAR's would be: Wacha 2.4 Kluber 1.85 Eovaldi 1.25
  15. I mean, we go on and on about DD extending Sale, but the doctors cleared Sale too, and he did pitch 147 innings in 2019 and record the second-highest K rate of his career.
  16. Aren't flexor strains in the elbow for baseball players a frequent precursor to TJS? Anyway, this is isn't about surgery vs. rest for me, it's about the wisdom of signing the guy in the first place.
  17. From Chad Finn of the Globe: A redemptive second Boston season out of Trevor Story — you know, the Bogaerts leverage — is out of the question after his elbow surgery, as if those Jamie Moyer fastballs he was throwing from shortstop during his last season with the Rockies weren’t a clue that something might go wrong.
  18. It seems that the doctors can only do so much to predict future problems. In Correa's case the problem was much more obvious - he has a plate in his leg. That being said, the fan in the street could have told you Sale and Story were injury risks.
  19. No, no, no - it's more fun when you make the number big, like with OPS.
  20. Yes, the real question is whether he was damaged goods when we signed him. It certainly appears that he was damaged goods in the same sense that Sale was.
  21. We need a new stat for pitchers. Why? Well, obviously, because of the often glaring differences between bWAR and fWAR for pitchers. For example, our Yankee fan "friend" recently stated "You lost Wacha and Eovaldi from your rotation and added back Kluber, who isn’t very good." So I looked up their WAR numbers for last year. Kluber fWAR 3.0 bWAR 0.7 Eovaldi fWAR 1.0 bWAR 1.5 Wacha fWAR 1.5 bWAR 3.3 (Conventional numbers for Old Schoolers) Kluber 10-10 4.34 164.0 IP Eovaldi 6-3 3.87 109.1 IP Wacha 11-2 3.32 127.2 IP As we can see, Kluber was the best according to fWAR, but the worst per bWAR. Wacha led the way in bWAR. Kluber has a huge difference of 2.3 between the two numbers, and Wacha's difference is also pretty large at 1.8. I have a rudimentary understanding of where the differences come from (like FIP). But the discrepancies can be a bit annoying at times. So what I propose is this: add the two numbers together. Now simply adding two stats together sounds ridiculous, but the most popular offensive stat now of course is OPS, which does exactly that. If we add together fWAR and bWAR we get this: Wacha 4.8 Kluber 3.7 Eovaldi 2.5 So what do we call this new stat? fbWAR? Well, I think this is a little catchier: FUBAR
  22. With an extension to follow?
  23. And the one big acquisition, Story, being a bust.
  24. The metrics have been given for why Brasier is still around. It's not a big deal though, as you say, just something to jabber about while waiting for the Tortoise's next move.
  25. The fact that you even typed "Dalbec at SS" says a lot about the state of this roster...
