  1. Early spring "road game" lineups generally suck.
  2. It was "more known", yes, but very far from certain.
  3. Your assertions and those of the experts are perfectly sensible. Like I say, that's part of what bothers me! We only have to spin the dial back two years to see how the Sox made it work with Whitlock. Instead of him being the difference in not making the playoffs, it was the other way about... Anyway, it's just something half-interesting to jabber about.
  4. True, but the question for you is, were you expecting Pedro to go 1975 Luis Tiant and throw a 160 pitch CG?
  5. The fact it's such a Cinderella story is part of what makes me nervous. Chalk it up to superstition, I guess. The guy has a female agent. He's different!
  6. Pedro wasn't going to throw a complete game there though. Grady had to go to the pen at some point.
  7. We very briefly had Boof Bonser, too.
  8. The funny thing is, up until we got Whitlock, the Rule 5 draft didn't seem to get talked about much at all. It didn't seem like a big deal. Now suddenly it is.
  9. That's exactly what I keep saying.
  10. You're going to have a hard time convincing me Song isn't a completely unique case. A highly regarded prospect whose one and only issue is his military service. I think the Red Sox got screwed by Rule 5 here. There should have been some sort of exemption. But that's all beside the point now.
  11. Pumpkins connect the two.
  12. Song's situation is unprecedented. To me that's the whole point. Since he's unique, of course someone like him has never been taken before.
  13. Not you too. Where was the discussion on the Rule 5 draft here? The only people here I would expect to be in the know on something like that are you and notin. And you guys didn't mention a thing about Ward and Song until after the draft - like everyone else.
  14. I was gonna say, your proposal is straight out of the DD playbook. The 2017 Sox were more in a window of contention than the 2023 Sox, though.
  15. The thing is, Song's case is just about unprecedented. Sure, it's the easy play to bet that he has no chance, but we don't actually have any comparative cases as evidence. It's all conjecture. Nobody really knew what Whitlock would be like in 2021, either.
  16. It was a hypothetical question, notin. "If the Sox decide to be jerks..."
  17. Spoken like a true Red Sox fan.
  18. He threw a ton of innings at a young age.
  19. I think what really bothers me about the prospect of losing Song is that it seems to run totally opposite to the philosophy we thought Bloom had. Sacrificing a possible future asset for the sake of having someone mediocre but of use in 2023. Maybe Bloom was thinking about his job and the urgency of making the playoffs this year. Or maybe he just assumed Song wouldn't be taken or wouldn't be able to pitch this year. I'd love to know what Kimmi thinks of it, because she's so future-and-farm-oriented.
  20. You're only getting 2 guaranteed years of him, is a problem. And another, from the Red Sox perspective, is that he can't pitch.
  21. That article must have been written years ago, because it only credits the Patriots with 5 titles. Their ranking of the Celtics 11 in 13 is pretty absurd, alright.
  22. Why would the Phillies have to trade him?
  23. Yeah, right, I'm showing bias with a hypothetical question asked because I'm interested in how the rules work.
