Maybe Bloom is a Nutty Professor type. That's the nickname Joe Kerrigan earned in his short and ugly stint as Sox manager. Pulling lineups out a hat and the like. Maybe Bloom is unconventional to a fault. Like, we signed Kike to be a center fielder or second baseman, but what the heck, maybe he'll be great at short! McGuire and Wong, pretty untested guys, but what the heck, maybe they'll do the job...they're plenty cheap, at least!

It's all academic, man. If we acquired all the guys we've been rumored to be in on, we'd have a pretty good team.

And after some of us thought Andrus might be asking for too much, he signed for $3 million. So many things that can be questioned. Right now I have an awful feeling this team is really gonna suck.

The 2020 pitching staff was in tatters, that's the main point.

That's exactly what we said about the past offseason.

Hopefully so. They're still unproven quantities as starters.

They gave up 65 runs in the last 10 ST games. 6.5 per game. They've given up 34 runs in the first 5 RS games. 6.8 per game. I know ST games don't mean much, but toward the end of them you do have your better pitchers covering most of the innings. So giving up 6.5 per game was concerning. Was it misleading? Not based on the first 5 real games.

But the 2020 opening day pitching staff was DECIMATED by losses of all types from 2018-2019. And the 2019 team only won 84 games.

Only one of those is a pitcher, and he's not really considered to have a super-high ceiling AFAIK. The biggest question with this team is the starting pitching. IF Bello and Whitlock really step up, there may be some hope.
