  1. As we've talked about here so many times, Henry tried to take the team in a totally different direction starting in 2019, with the trade of Betts being the first shocking evidence of this. He's hired 2 CBOs with zero experience and we've had some horrible signings and some wacky roster issues. The facts that Cora still has his job, that he got hired back after a suspension, and that he got a 3 year extension, and that he's been mentioned as a candidate for becoming part of the front office, suggest that ownership must really think highly of him.
  2. Crazy as it may seem, Story has 18 RBI in June. We would be even worse without him. Like I said, crazy.
  3. Virtually every game is a struggle for this team. Very few comfortable wins.
  4. How's that? He did get Devers to accept moving to DH. It was when Casas went down that things got really messy...
  5. Maybe we vastly overrated the 2025 team. More likely, it was another year when we needed a lot more things to go right than wrong, and once again it just didn't happen.
  6. "Appears" is the right word....all we have to go on is appearances.
  7. It's extremely hard to say if Cora is part of the problem or not. With Devers gone, the team is very low in proven major league position player talent. There's Bregman, but he's out. There's Story, who ain't what he used to be. It's mainly youngsters and utility players.
  8. Needs to spend more time with Dillon Lawson.
  9. Late bloomer - one exceptional season - seems to have focus issues. But there are probably bigger questions lurking about the Sox coaching and player development, questions it's pretty hard for any of us to answer.
  10. moon is open to just about anything. He would trade family members and pets if there was any hope it would improve the Sox. So trading Anthony and Campbell is nothing to him. 😀
  11. He's Johnston to me. The leftover X and Y can be used as initials.
  12. My guess would be SF put the pressure on and the Sox decided they had to jump for one big reason: SF was offering to pay every nickel of the contract. Even though I've been somewhat supportive of the trade, in the big picture it's yet another debacle for the post-2018 Red Sox. Because what other team would trade their best hitter right after their best stretch of the season?
  13. Puny samples, but since the trade the Giants are 3-5 and Devers has a .608 OPS.
  14. The only way they can win more without Devers is by making some adds.
  15. The team could desperately use a piece of good news and they just freed up $250 mill or so. I am already sensing a cynical reaction to this and I'm expecting some folks to go with slim and none as the chances. 🙃
  16. Now, on the other hand, we do have our fair share of armchair CBOs here, and we are already hearing plenty of talk about who we should sell off. So it goes.
  17. Denny, my belief is that anyone who is in here posting is not a giver-upper. Someone who has truly given up has lost interest in even following the team, and they're not posting on a Sox message board. We're Sox obsessives, they're a big part of our life on this planet, and that's why we're here. This place has a lot of cathartic value for me. I vent some frustration and get it out of my system. And as soon as the first pitch of today's game I'll be following along like always.
  18. OK, that's your take on the Devers trade, which I understand. But it's not what we getting from the media reports, and in theory they could make a couple of moves that would give them a realistic shot at the playoffs. I'm not saying that's what'll happen. I would expect the Sox front office is undecided and are watching the game results just like us.
  19. Unfortunately the Sox are in the same position they've been every year since 2022 with the trade deadline looming - it's not clear which direction to go in. And the results of the last 3 trade deadlines all stunk.
  20. No it isn't, but 1.5 seasons are in at 1 game under .500, and the prognosis for the rest of 2025 isn't looking good right now.
  21. Yes. And in addition they paid $17 million of Sale's salary. Some might say they paid $17 million for Grissom. In either case the combined transactions cost $35 million or so for 2024. I can see reasons why they made the Sale trade, but it irks me when people talk about it like it was a virtual no-brainer.
  22. The only justifiable reason to make the trade was the money part. We all know the injury history. So did Atlanta, and they were obviously very interested in him.
  23. We don't know that they're not doing their jobs, though. Maybe Duran just doesn't take instruction well, or maybe he has a hard time keeping his head in the game.
