  1. That's exactly what we said about the past offseason.
  2. Hopefully so. They're still unproven quantities as starters.
  3. They gave up 65 runs in the last 10 ST games. 6.5 per game. They've given up 34 runs in the first 5 RS games. 6.8 per game. I know ST games don't mean much, but toward the end of them you do have your better pitchers covering most of the innings. So giving up 6.5 per game was concerning. Was it misleading? Not based on the first 5 real games.
  4. But the 2020 opening day pitching staff was DECIMATED by losses of all types from 2018-2019. And the 2019 team only won 84 games.
  5. Only one of those is a pitcher, and he's not really considered to have a super-high ceiling AFAIK. The biggest question with this team is the starting pitching. IF Bello and Whitlock really step up, there may be some hope.
  6. Tomase is a tool, he probably overlooked 2020. Being more talented than the 2020 team just isn't much comfort.
  7. I really don't think John Henry will be a happy camper if the team wins 75 games this year and attendance and ratings go down. He may have hired Bloom to get the payroll under control, but he didn't hire him to produce s***** teams and apathetic fans.
  8. Way far. Especially since the ball is probably juiced again.
  9. Does help explain why they've given up 99 runs in the last 15 games including ST, and have given up fewer than 4 runs in none of those games...
  10. Two very separate questions indeed. My confidence in Bloom is very low right now.
  11. With more facts now in, it's time for me to concede that you guys who said there should have been a fire sale last year were obviously right.
  12. It feels like the man has a 10 Year Plan that he has yet to really unfold. It feels like this year basically means nothing.
  13. It was 5 Gloves who pointed out that this team goes against the adage that you're supposed to be strong up the middle. Until Story gets back, our middle is McGuire/Wong, Arroyo, Kike and Duvall. It'll be *interesting* to see what our defensive numbers look like as the sample grows.
  14. I know everyone has this thought lurking somewhere in their mind. If this team is even worse than the 2022 team, is Bloom gone?
  15. This team has a lot of problems. Yours, Johnny Obvious.
  16. He's on pace for 200 ribbies.
  17. Gausman and McHugh instead of Story.
  18. Based on one bad start?
  19. Get this - in Vaz's 3 starts for the Astros last postseason, they gave up a total of 1 run. So in his last 6 starts the opposition has scored 2 runs.
  20. Yes. Some of the differences he found were not that large though. Plus he may be getting better as he gets older. McGuire is relatively inexperienced, and Wong has almost no experience. I'm sure Varitek is working hard with them. Maybe they're getting overwhelmed with new information or something. I don't know, I'm just guessing, I freely admit.
  21. Why? What was wrong with Sale and Kluber's preparation? They seemed to follow the standard pattern of innings buildup, as did the staff in general, the ones who stayed healthy.
  22. And Wacha and Hill were just 1-season placekeepers, like Kluber is this year. Price tag was the most appealing feature.
  23. I don't think Houston or Minnesota wanted him primarily for his bat.
  24. Not signing any free agent starters for longer than a year since Bloom took over is looking like a good strategy financially, but not so good competitively.
