  1. I'm just very skeptical about McGuire being a #1 catcher. That's an understatement, actually. The Jays and White Sox both unloaded him last year. Hell, the White Sox took Diekman back and gave us another player to boot. Some folks think all this was a coup on Bloom's part. I think it might be just another cost-cutting move and one with disastrous consequences. Why do we think this guy is actually good, when 2 other teams got rid of him for next to nothing?
  2. Verlander starts the year on the IL.
  3. It's very difficult to project such a hodgepodge team. But if the pitching/defense is as bad as it was the last few weeks of ST and yesterday, look out below.
  4. Reese McGuire's 2023 CERA is off to a rocky start with 10 ER in 7 IP.
  5. Can we DFA Brasier and Ort to give everyone something to cheer about?
  6. But why did you start a thread about this, is the question.
  7. Judge homers in his first AB of 2023.
  8. Good thing they had Bobby Dalbec sharpen up his game at SS.
  9. Only if the opinion is obviously wrong, right?
  10. In fairness I think 700hitter was exercising some sardonic hyperbole there and not intending to be taken literally...
  11. Right, but when it comes to whether a guy is a good fielder or not, there are some facts that can be referred to.
  12. Doesn't Philly have to carry him on their 26 man this year?
  13. I think the Red Sox, and Song, got a raw deal from the rules. There should have been a special exemption for him. It does look like Bloom was absolutely right not to protect him.
  14. No, that's not the point I was trying to make.
  15. Yay, this team is more talented than the 2020 team. If that doesn't get your motor running, nothing will.
  16. Many do say that, actually...
  17. What strikes me as funny about the idea that the Phillies were caught off guard by him being released is this: if he wasn't released this year, we'd be talking about a 4 year hiatus or longer rather than the 3 year hiatus many say is too long anyway.
  18. McGuire is the poster boy for hodgepodge teams.
  19. We don't know he can't be good, either. He's still young and healthy and he obviously has the genetic makeup to be able to throw a baseball. As I keep saying, it's a case we've never seen before.
  20. Is that not what I said?
  21. Now I'm curious as to whether there is any history of teams filing grievances about faked injuries. My guess would be no team wants to do it because every team uses the Phantom IL from time to time.
  22. Let's face it, just about anything is possible with this hodgepodge Chaim has put together.
  23. How could anyone prove he isn't injured? It makes perfect sense that a guy who hasn't pitched in that long would strain his back trying to throw with velocity again.
  24. I still hope we get Song back, even if there's only a 10% chance he becomes a major league starter. A chance is a chance.
  25. If Paxton can stay healthy, anything is possible LOL
