  1. I forgot to say, that was funny.
  2. I'm still hoping to get Song back, but I think framing this as DD potentially ruining a young man's career is pretty silly. He took a shot, with little to lose. He did what HOBO's are supposed to do, try to make their team better. I don't think Song is being treated unethically. The rules are what they are. DD operated within them.
  3. They don't call him Desperate Dave for nothing, notin.
  4. Good job Thunder. Hope you see a good one.
  5. Not to be an "I told you so" guy, but this is exactly what I thought would happen. Eventually all the teams have the same analytic information, so no one has an advantage, but the game itself isn't as enjoyable.
  6. So the Mets are now without last year's AL Cy Young award winner, last year's best closer in the game for the whole season, and Jose Quintana maybe for the whole season. It would be ironic, or something, if Steve Cohen's spending explosion turns to dust because of injuries to the pitching staff.
  7. It's true, the Kluber contract is the biggest for a free agent starting pitcher since Bloom took over. Amazing.
  8. Am I correct that since Bloom took over the Red Sox, the biggest contract they've handed out to a starting pitcher is the one to Kluber?
  9. Early in the offseason Bloom was asked if he planned to acquire a starting pitcher. Bloom not only answered in the affirmative, but he was very specific about what he was looking for: "leadership, innings and upside". That sounded exciting. The pitcher he eventually signed was Kluber. I will accept "leadership" and "innings" (by today's standards). But there's no way in hell Kluber offers "upside". Was Kluber really the guy Bloom had in mind when he said that? Or did he get outbid on the guy he really wanted, or did a trade fall through? Whatever the explanation, Bloom did not deliver on his promise. And it's one of the things that makes me nervous about the guy.
  10. Fair point. Almost all of us are abusive toward Red Sox players who aren't getting the job done. And "clowns" is not very different from "garbage".
  11. But maybe he's right that a query could have been made.
  12. The modern managerial philosophy is not to "chase wins". If you fall behind by several runs early, your % chances of winning the game are low, so you manage accordingly. Plus Cora's philosophy is to use everybody that Bloom gives him. And for some reason they think Brasier and Ort can get guys out.
  13. We've had an unbelievable amount of trash pass through our bullpen doors the last few years. Now I have to figure out an anagram for Tyler Danish that has trash in it.
  14. I think what's worrisome to me is that Bloom just seems to try a lot of stuff to see if it works...or not. McGuire has never been a #1 catcher and he bounced around like a ping-pong ball last year, but now he's our #1 catcher.
  15. Not a serious argument.
  16. McGuire is dirt cheap, so at least there's that.
  17. And the Jays jettisoned Collins.
  18. More like he's a Freddy Fungible or Sammy Suitcase profile...
  19. I think Song has to be on the Phillies' active list for at least 90 days, or returned.
  20. So you're arguing that Diekman is actually good?
  21. Rhetorical question, Hugh.
  22. I'm usually like that too. But grave doubts about Bloom's approach have entered my mind and refuse to leave. This was supposed to be a make or break offseason for him, and I'm not sure he actually did anything to improve the team. With one notable exception in Yoshida.
  23. So why did 2 teams jettison him last year for nothing? Are we supposed to believe they didn't realize how good he is?
  24. Song has to stay on their 26 man list, right?
  25. And it was kind of funny to hear Cora lament that the team was so much sharper in ST games, considering that they allowed 65 runs in the last 10 ST games.
