  1. Based on some of your recent posts, don't you think defense is a top need too?
  2. It's all a matter of opinion.
  3. If they do that he should quit.
  4. He's been a consistent 4 WAR player. I don't understand why you don't like that.
  5. He's a Fungible Freddy.
  6. Ben would have been a wimp to stay on. He did the right thing.
  7. Chapman is an above-average hitter. That's why he's such a valuable commodity.
  8. Some players are just meant to live out of suitcases.
  9. The 8 for 8 in SB's is very good. But he also leads the team in GIDP's by a lot, with 19. Second place is 11.
  10. My complaint is with Bloom for allocating $100 million plus to Yoshida, and $10 million to the rotation. Plus I do put a lot of stock in WAR, and Yoshida's WAR has been crushed by his defense and baserunning. He should absolutely be a DH.
  11. And if we had better starters we'd have more leads after 6.
  12. It would be helpful to have a starter or two who can regularly pitch 6 innings or more...
  13. Yeah, just have to outbid Steve Cohen...
  14. How can we notwithstand those extensions and the Eovaldi signing? That was 145 + 120 +68 = 333 million.
  15. The Red Sox have stayed near the top in payroll since Theo came aboard, right up until this year when they took a dive. The big bubbles were in 2018 and 2019, which was a combination of Ben's contracts and DD's contracts.
  16. No, Porcello was all Ben.
  17. Again, we're comparing a 9 year tenure to a 4 year tenure.
  18. Ben also traded prospects for Melancon, Bailey and Hanrahan.
  19. Major outlays by Ben: Pedroia Victorino Napoli Pablo Hanley Porcello Castillo A fair amount in 4 years IMHO.
  20. Don't forget Theo was 9 years and Ben was 4, so everything has to be converted by a factor of 2.25.
  21. You just don't care for my sense of humor.
  22. Is this a fair statement? Most teams, maybe all of them, don't like to make a young player a career DH. More likely we'll read about Casas putting in a lot of extra work on his defense before next season.
  23. He's been tremendous with the bat after the slow start. What's putting a damper on the lovefest is that so much attention has come to be paid to the Sox atrocious defense, and Casas has been part of that, which is a bit surprising because he was reported to be a good defender when he came up.
