  1. Much cheaper Much faster 2 out of 3 ain't bad. fWAR is 3 times Yoshida's.
  2. Yes, I know I that had coming. But Yoshida makes considerably more money, is a lousy defender and is slow as molasses in January. I haven't just been criticizing the decline in his OPS.
  3. .828 OPS. Tough crowd!
  4. That's what the Jays did with Gausman and Bassitt, and what I was hoping the Sox would do the last 2 years.
  5. I think there's a good chance they go very hard after Yamamoto. That will be a bidding war, though.
  6. Yes, I will get around to Ruth, Williams and Bonds, I promise.
  7. Fair enough. I misread SPs as Starting Pitchers anyway LOL
  8. The thing is, we keep holding up David Price as the cautionary tale about signing FA pitchers and a big reason that Henry replaced DD with Bloom. The 2016 Red Sox needed top pitching just like the 2024 Red Sox do. So we're kind of in that same boat. And even though Price looked like a good bet, DD gets crucified for it. Do we think Henry wants to lather, rinse and repeat?
  9. I see merit in your lineup and defense. I think your rotation needs work.
  10. The 2023 Red Sox pitching leader in fWAR is 1.6 - ugly. We have a ton of deficiencies to fix, folks. Bloom has the tallest of tall orders on his hands.
  11. 2023 fWAR leaders-position players (none of them super-impressive except maybe Duvall BTW) Verdugo 2.5 Duvall 2.4 Devers 2.3 Duran 2.3 Turner 1.9 Casas 1.3 Note who we are expecting to subtract and figure out how their production will be replaced.
  12. Julio Rodriguez August 2023: 23 games 429/474/724 1198 OPS 7 HR 30 RBI 19 R 76 TB
  13. Carl Yastrzemski September 1967: 27 games 417/504/760 1265 OPS 9 HR 26 RBI 22 R 73 TB
  14. Mookie Betts August 2023: 28 games 455/516/839 1355 OPS 11 HR 30 RBI 35 R 94 TB This has to be pretty hard to top.
  15. What rules are we talking about?
  16. I think the first part is overstated a bit.
  17. If Bernardino was a prospect, I think that would make Ryan Brasier in 2018 a prospect?
  18. Denny, you're obviously correct that the bullpen suffered from the loss of Kimbrel and Kelly and it resulted in lost games. Folks just like to argue about baseball stuff because there are often counterarguments you can come up with.
  19. Kimbrel is 8th all-time in Saves. He's had a fine career. 2.42 ERA, .99 WHIP. He had a rough stretch in the 2018 postseason.
  20. Bernardino was a dumpster dive.
  21. He's the firin' kind, man.
  22. I don't think Henry fired DD because of the 2019 season. I think he just wanted to "go in another direction" as they often say when guys get fired. This time I think it was the truth. Plus there were stories about DD kind of walling himself off with his old buddies like LaRussa, and not communicating well. The Red Sox have had a lot of success in the Henry years, with 4 titles, and yet we're on our 4th CBO. It does say something about Henry's style.
  23. Yankees lose! We're half a game further away from last place.
  24. The starting pitching was much worse too, though.
