  1. Looks like you have a new project for the offseason.
  2. Well, I guess we have something new to argue about. To me Cherington was not a radical change from Theo, a slight one at most. He did trade Iglesias for Peavy. DD was a radical change from Cherington, and Bloom was a radical change from DD.
  3. Theo was a Prospect Hoarder with the Sox too, no?
  4. After Stearns signs with the Mets, a reporter asks Bloom if it's true the Red Sox were in the bidding for Stearns. "Yes, we made what we thought was a very strong, very competitive offer to David to come in and replace me, but we fell a little short. So now we move forward with what we have, which in this case means me."
  5. Well, there were plenty of big money acquisitions in 2013 and 2015. There was no long-term rebuilding plan apparent IMHO. I don't see a big change from the Theo years.
  6. The parallels between the "records" of Cherington and Bloom are indeed notable. But Cherington wasn't really brought in to take the team in a new direction. He was just the logical in-house successor to Theo. Bloom was supposed to represent a major change in philosophy, and one that would take some time to implement.
  7. As much heat as I've been putting on Bloom, canning him now, after going through all this, would only confirm that Henry has totally lost it.
  8. Reported interest! Jeezus, now they're even doing it with the CBO position...
  9. I thought Stearns was supposed to be bound for the Mets. We know one thing-Henry ain't getting in any bidding war with Cohen.
  10. notin would agree.
  11. Chaim "the Underwhelmer" can definitely do it.
  12. The Red Sox under Bloom are obviously trying to run things in a businesslike way and make wise decisions. Are they succeeding? Hard to say. The farm is improving, yes, and the payroll is more or less under control. But the payroll is still pretty high, they've invested $550 million in 3 players, and they're a .500 team for the second year in a row.
  13. I've always liked this joke too: "I spent most of it on wine, women and song. The rest I wasted."
  14. OTOH maybe John Henry became too gun-shy about big contracts and luxury tax, and that played a big role in things like losing Mookie Betts and putting .500 teams on the field in his new CBO's 3rd and 4th years with the team.
  15. I don't blame them.
  16. Bloom denies and defies it!
  17. Definitely. That and the big race for 4th place with the Yanks are the only things of interest for Sox fans now.
  18. Padres are over for the third year in a row this year. I'm not saying it's a brilliant strategy, but the thinking of some teams has obviously changed about the 3 years in a row thing. It's not an automatic. It's a choice.
  19. You're correct. A .500 team is the definition of mediocre.
  20. Hard to say. Their owner seems like he wants to have fun. The much-esteemed Dodgers front office is going over the threshold for the third year in a row in 2023.
  21. Wow, what a free agency denier LOL. Yes, we know it often turns out badly, but "rarely works out" is just wrong, and you could look it up.
  22. Yeah, trying to be a little consistent here. As we've said there are big differences between fWAR and bWAR for pitchers.
  23. We're leaving out their salaries? The FanGraphs number is legit, it's based on actual historical data of the average cost of wins for free agent players.
