2020 should be ignored. Bloom did a good job in 2021. A lot of the players were obviously left over from DD.

Yeah, I don't think you can point to any of Cora's Red Sox teams and say they badly underachieved.

I guess I'll have to keep saying this, but the 2019 team was not that bad, and the 2021 team also did OK.

Morgan Magic didn't win any postseason games, as I recall.

I guess we shouldn't have fired Bloom, then. Cora should be able to win with anything you hand him.

Modern management theory is that you don't "chase wins", you don't use your best relievers when you're losing (unless it's a must-win game). I do understand why this approach can be frustrating.

You're being gentle, really. The Bloom years have been a disaster. Maybe someday we'll look back on his work more kindly - maybe. To me it's all on ownership. They have screwed up royally since the moments they decided to part ways with Betts and then Dombrowski. They thought they were being smart. Maybe they have learned a lesson - maybe.

At this moment in time I feel somewhat pessimistic about 2024, because I don't think our core is as strong as some other folks seem to think it is. Here are the fWAR's for position players: Devers 3.3 Duran 2.4 Verdugo 2.2 Duvall 1.9 Casas 1.7 Turner 1.3 Wong 0.7 Yoshida 0.5 The only way this team is going to be good in 2024 is with additions from outside and advances from inside.

Our offense has been absolutely dismal in September. Losing Casas hurt, but still...

The pre-season projections for the 2019 team were pretty strong, as I recall.

2020 should just be expunged. The 2021 team was good after some relatively inexpensive tweaks.

Now that you mention it, Beni does seem like a good comp. Like Beni, Verdugo does not have consistent power.

The 2019 team was the 2018 team, one year removed in time. It wasn't a bad team, it was a team that had a bad year. Many things went wrong. I do think there are reasons no team has won it back to back this century.

We're in worse shape than a lot of those contenders, because we're a sub-.500 team. We need to upgrade more than some other teams do.

jad and 5 Gloves say they enjoyed 2019. Take it up with them. The 2008 ALCS was not that exciting. Game 5 was an amazing comeback, but that's it.

The Chaim Bloom Era has taught us that if your gaze is aimed mostly down the road, there's probably a wreck right in front of you. Rebuilding and half-ass competing is a failure. Rebuilding and tanking would be better.

Story and Yoshida are zero, but someone will replace them. Personally, I'm getting too old to be thinking that far ahead.

Duran had a 2.4 fWAR in 102 games. He played very well - vastly improved from his 2022 self.
