    I've been a fan over 50 years too, as I'm sure a lot of people here have. You keep talking about the collapses and you say nothing about the 4 titles and all the other playoff appearances. Your negative bias appears to be a neurosis of some sort.

    What evidence is there that they were seriously negotiating on Ryan? What I heard was that their offer wasn't close and that they balked at the Twins insistence on Duran or Abreu being part of the package.

    Some guys who look like great hitters in AAA cannot hit major league pitching. Bobby Dalbec is one example. Grissom is the opposite of Dalbec in that he makes a lot of contact, but he lacks home run power. Grissom has gone well over 200 major league at bats since his last home run.

    If any team has been cursed with their deadline deals the last few years, it's the Yanks. I'd like to see a list for the last 5 years, it's hilarious how badly they've turned out. This year they outdid themselves, in the very first game after the deadline, the 3 relievers they acquired gave up 9 runs, and Caballero made a big error - the deadline guys were instrumental in turning a 9-4 7th inning lead into a 13-12 loss. And then last night Bird gives up the walkoff* homer, and gets sent to the minors. This is epic stuff. * I actually hate this stupid term.

    The super-sucky results of the 2024 deadline pickups were plugged into the Sox efficiency model and the model said a lot of bad things. 😄

    I think it was Kelly they really wanted. The offer they made for Ryan was reportedly not even close. The Twins did insist on Duran or Abreu I believe.

    There's that, but they were also doing the right thing for his health. I think most teams are ethical about this stuff. And the Players Union keeps an eye on such things, I would assume.

    Unfortunately Paxton was pretty much made of paper. It took a lot of optimism to like that addition last year...and nobody was surprised he only lasted 11 innings.

    I get a nice warm feeling every time Ref or Romy step to the plate against a lefty, that's for sure.
