  1. Not going to get much for him right now.
  2. Betts has a 1.4 fWAR in 8 games LOL His defensive number is positive. Pretty good player.
  3. Thanks for that, Hugh. Needless to say, for the average fan like me it keeps it simpler to assign credit and blame to the CBO for virtually all baseball moves during his tenure. Which includes giving Epstein credit for Betts even though he may not have known much about a 5th round pick. Like everything else in baseball, luck can be a pretty large factor.
  4. What a catch by Rafaela. Running full out, stretching to make the catch and whirling to make the throw, making it all look smooth. This guy is a special outfielder.
  5. Hugh, I know you know a lot more about this stuff than me, but how do you know the CBO knows nothing about the picks after the first one?
  6. Just to be clear, the 3 in the starting lineup I referenced are Casas, Duran, and Rafaela. It would be 4 with Dalbec...
  7. Can anyone name the last Red Sox CBO before DD whose farm produced 3 guys in the Sox starting rotation at the same time? (I don't know the answer.)
  8. Maybe one simple way to compare the draft success ratios of the CBOs would be to list their successes and divide by the number of years. Theo 9 Ben 4 DD 4 Bloom 4. It's too early to be able to evaluate the last 2 though. What would be the criteria for successes? At least 10 WAR? Then you would have to give extra points for higher levels of WAR. Theo would obviously cash in big time on Betts.
  9. Sorry, I'm too old now to be deliberately looking that far ahead.
  10. Casas, so 3 guys in the 2024 rotation and 3 in the starting lineup...
  11. But baseball fans aren't always very precise with the terminology they use, either. Dombrowski gets accused of leaving a mess behind that included a barren farm. There are two steps to rendering a farm barren, one is to sell all the crops and the other is to not replenish it. He did the former but not the latter.
  12. Let's see what Bailey can do for Houck?
  13. Quite possibly, but they did tell him to prepare as a starter.
  14. Plus the Bello extension.
  15. RIP Larry Lucchino. A big part of the team's 21st century success.
  16. Looks like there may have been one wicked good signing in Bailey.
  17. Nicely done injecting the sobering note into an otherwise giddy chorus of celebration.
  18. Whitlock too. Breslow and Bailey had other ideas, and they just might be smarter than us. Still early though. Have to see how these guys hold up.
  19. Looks that way LOL My numbers fetish led me to obsess over McGuire's crazy CERA.
  20. Quite possible that Bailey took a liking to McGuire, too. Sure can't argue with the results so far.
  21. It's also a game that's already under fire for the number of life-altering, life expectancy-reducing injuries sustained by players. Frankly it's a game that's too violent for the human body. Much like pitching is now too stressful for the human arm. No real solutions for these problems.
  22. Have to agree to disagree on that one. I still see QB's taking plenty of physical abuse, and they are the star attraction, so it's not surprising they get some extra protection.
  23. Somewhat of a surprise that McGuire started 3 of the first 5, catching Pivetta, Whitlock and Houck.
  24. How's that going to make football better? You'll have fewer penalties but more injuries. And there are plenty injuries already.
  25. You trying to make a case for correlation of spring record to real record? Better bring a stack o' numbers!
