At this point in time I'm not second-guessing the brain trust on any of this. We need to see how it all plays out. Whitlock is getting some more starts, that seems certain.

It'd be interesting to see a list of starting pitchers who have pitched X (fill in a suitable number) of MLB innings without ever having TJ surgery or a single trip to the IL. Must be a pretty slim list.

Triston Casas is dubious. He hit one as good as he can hit it to right, he says, and the distance was 425 feet or something? The theory is that before they built up the area behind home plate the ball carried much better.

Yankee Stadium 3 is under 325 feet down both lines, no?

In baseball you not only have different park dimensions, but the flight of the ball is highly subject to different atmospheric conditions and even the structure of the park, which is supposedly why Ted Williams could hit one 502 feet to right but nobody can do it any more.

For me, Andrew Bailey and the Sox remarkable pitching numbers thus far brings to mind a Bugs Bunny reference that only notin might get: "I don't know how ya's done it, but I know ya's done it."

Yeah, it's just one of the things that sets it apart from the other major team sports and keeps it delightfully weird.

Reading a lot of the posts here the last couple of days makes me think I'm closer to an old school guy myself. All I really care about anymore is the Sox W-L record. I do think we have some smart guys running the team now (Breslow/Bailey/Cora) and I'm happy to let them figure everything out.

So South Korea gets a couple games between the Dodgers and Padres. Pretty good matchup. Mexico gets two games between the Astros and the...Rockies? What kind of nasty-ass trick is that to play on our neighbors to the south?

I wouldn't say it's meaningless, but you can definitely make a case that its importance is way overstated, especially with the playoff crapshoot we now have. Last year Arizona with a -15 differential took out the Dodgers and their +207 differential in 3 straight.

Yes, that's part of it. Plus you could say the Sox have shown with recent hirings (the pitching brain trust) that they are buying into the idea that spending chunks of money on guys who don't play can be a solid investment.

I actually think the Sox are going to pay the man, though I'm not counting on it. It seems clear enough that Henry and Werner must like him to hire him back after the suspension and to keep him on after two 78-84 seasons. As much as I've been ragging on ownership they do show redeeming qualities at times.

Yeah, if people don't think AC is a superior manager after watching him navigate the chaos he's been handed this year I don't know what to tell them.
