  1. At least in this case we can say we came out alright in the sense that we won a ring with Price. Jon of course won another ring with the Cubs.
  2. That 4 year/$70 million opening "offer" to Lester was a sign of things to come.
  3. I for one will be somewhat amused if they get put in the same "should we buy or should we sell" position this year. I agree that Breslow is more likely to be bold and sell whatever he can. It'll probably be the right thing to do, but it'll be another firestorm for the front office, after the full throttle, our mission is to compete ********.
  4. There was nothing wrong with the Price signing. He looked like a rock solid choice at the time. We won 3 division titles and a World Series in his first 3 seasons with us. What happened after that was basically the cost of doing business. IMHO.
  5. You sound suspiciously like a front office plant.
  6. In 1966, the last year before the ID season, they averaged about 10,000 a game, 8th out of 10 AL teams. 1967 famously revived the franchise.
  7. Which also explains some of the "nutty other teams" thing. Part of the reason more teams are spending more is because they're wealthier.
  8. What's missing from your numbers is comparisons of annual payroll to annual revenue and franchise market value. If payroll is staying the same while the others are rising, that's effectively cutting payroll. The payroll for 2024 is roughly the same as it was for 2010-2011. The franchise value has at least doubled since then.
  9. Prior to this year nobody wanted to see Ref against a righty. He's been great against righties this year, but some of that has to be the BABIP luck thing. Ref has an absurd BABIP of .424 overall, .405 vs. RHP and .458 vs. LHP.
  10. It's the combination of the owners and the front office, a combination of reducing the payroll, shifting emphasis from the present to the future, and just downright disastrous moves (like Story and Yoshida). I've been saying for a while now they have succeeded in lowering our expectations.
  11. Yeah, it's more like the price of SUBmission now.
  12. Cora uses the guys the CBO gives him. He always does. If you want Cooper gone, Breslow is the only one that can do it.
  13. Don't let them, man. Just accept that we're maestros of mediocrity.
  14. I never ever actively hope for the Sox to lose a game. But after the fact I'm finding that losses don't bother me much this year. Because I'm pissed at Henry, yes, and I don't really want to see his Tampa Bay North dream succeed.
  15. Yeah, in the IL Rotation.
  16. Extending Pivetta would be a good idea.
  17. Do you go to games at Fenway any more, 700?
  18. The Even Freakin' Stevens! 13th time they've been at .500*: 1-1 2-2 7-7 9-9 10-10 19-19 22-22 24-24 26-26 27-27 28-28 29-29 30-30 *excluding 0-0, wiseass.
  19. A sub 3 ERA is a pretty tough standard. He was comfortably under 4 the last 3 years.
  20. I think he would have stayed if shown the money. OTOH I'm sure he's pretty damn glad how this worked out.
  21. He was pretty damn good for 3 full years, 2021 to 2023. The Sox reportedly were not big fans of his stuff. It does seem like they were right to pass on him. Not sure if it wasn't just because they were being cheap, though, because they passed on a whole lot of guys.
  22. Mookie's a bit of a media personality now too. He's certainly not in the worst location for his lifestyle...
  23. Got it. We're back to square one now. And moon has been outed as the grumpy one...
