  1. For 'runs produced', which is a stat that's used sometimes, though obviously a pretty raw one, you just add runs scored and RBI together and subtract HR's.
  2. I don't have any issues with Salty's offense. It's more than adequate for a catcher and he shows signs of getting better with the stick. It's his defence that's the crucial factor.
  3. Beckett was the same ******* in 2007 but he was lights-out in the postseason, which on top of his 2003 World Series performance, earned him a reputation as a Schilling-type Mister Clutch.
  4. I thought the deal with Doubront last year was that he showed up in spring out of shape, missed some time and just didn't pitch that well.
  5. Jenks? You're kidding right. I figured his next appearance in the ballpahk would be to play Santa Claus for 'Christmas at Fenway'.
  6. Bad umpiring struck again in the Rays-Jays game. Brett Lawrie got called out on strikes in the ninth, two of the pitches were clearly well outside the strike zone. Lawrie and John Farrell both got ejected, with justification. You can check out the strike calls on MLB.Gameday. Crazy bad calls.
  7. I think it's just because they don't like catchers doing a night game and a day game back-to-back.
  8. Funny how things like a conflict between the GM and manager only pop up as stories when the team is losing.
  9. I don't think Red Sox forum posters have to be divided up into the optimist party and the pessimist party but it sure seems to happen a lot. The conflict between the two sides can take on a life of its own, and not usually a good one.
  10. Lester seems to be one of the classic examples of a guy whose 'numbers will be in order by the end of the year'.
  11. And Lester's ERA is down to 3.71.
  12. Fine, but some actual supporting data or something is always nice. Paul McCartney looks pretty good for 70, in spite of his 'ticket to death'.
  13. Keep sucking like this, Nava.
  14. But if you're right, jung, that would mean the Sox FO is responsible for Beckett getting crucified for the golf thing.
  15. At the very least he would have value as a backup corner infielder who starts against lefties. This year he's only had 18 PA's against lefties but he has 5 hits and 4 walks. Last year he had a .987 OPS against lefties.
  16. So tell us, who are the teams doing things differently?
  17. I have to disagree. 3 pitchers threw an inning last night and 3 different relievers threw an inning today. All of them would easily be available for tomorrow. And the Red Sox haven't 'burned out their bullpen' every year. Last year Bard got burned out mainly because the starting pitching was so atrocious late in the year. Other than that I don't really know what you're referring to.
