  1. Hopefully Doubront gets back on track tomorrow.
  2. Buchholz is 7-2. Too funny. If he keeps pitching like this he could get in the Cy hunt.
  3. That's right. Valentine pulled off an amazing double switch earlier this year. The one where he took Middlebrooks out and put Punto in. Might have cost us that game. But it was interesting.
  4. Ah, the great strategic dilemma of NL baseball. Pinch-hit for the pitcher, or don't pinch-hit. Makes the game so much more exciting.
  5. I'm multi-tasking...following the game, getting some work done, and, occasionally, acknowledging other family members.
  6. Don't forget shoppers, the Kevin Youkilis Showcase Event is continuing daily from now until July 30. Watch his batting average drop, watch his price drop. How low will it go?
  7. That's ridiculous, isn't it.
  8. If the umps were doing a better a job this wouldn't be an issue. In fact many of the umps are probably doing a very good job. But some of them are screwing up seriously.
  9. The Youk Showcase Event must go on.
  10. Using technology to review calls is already here, in all the major sports, including baseball. And I think it's been a good thing.
  11. Technology could be added to balls and strikes calls without taking anything away from the umps by implementing a limited challenge system. But the first obstacle to that is that everyone would have to agree that there is such a thing as a fixed strike zone. What a radical concept that is...
  12. I have no hate for Youk whatsoever. But I think everyone agrees there's no chance he's with Boston beyond this year, so it's just a question of when he should be traded.
  13. evilhand, man, I like your stuff, but don't lose your cool. I argue with Elktonnick quite a bit myself. He's certainly not a troll. Troll is a very strong word.
  14. At first squeezing Youkilis into the lineup was working OK because they were keeping WMB in there as well. Now that WMB is day-on day-off and Youk is flailing it looks like s***. Trade Youk now for whatever, get it over with.
  15. I dunno...I think Crawford's got 142 million pretty good reasons to recover quickly from the slight John Henry inflicted upon his sensitive soul.
  16. I have to say, the Youkilis situation has turned into just one more major headache for this team. There were some good signs for a while but now his bat has gone stone cold dead again. Meanwhile Middlebrooks has no idea day to day if he's going to be in the lineup. It's quickly become a dismal situation. Maybe the Red Sox don't want to be embarrassed by how little they're going to get for Youk.
  17. Another loss. A fast one, anyway.
  18. You forced me to do my homework on this and now that I have, I find that your statement above is totally inaccurate. I read the whole article, then I listened to her followup interview on the Dennis and Callahan show. She specifically says 'I believe Youkilis is part of the solution' and she also states clearly that she doesn't think the Red Sox should get rid of him. She talks about Youkilis's passion and says 'that's what we love about him'. Maybe you should listen to the interview again. http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=jackie%20macmullan%20kevin%20youkilis&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CFQQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Faudio.weei.com%2Fa%2F46614208%2Fjackie-macmullan-talks-about-her-kevin-youkilis-story-on-espn.htm&ei=Ap7WT_z0DMjd0QHc0aCKAw&usg=AFQjCNFqpTL_tS2tK1e0zMvOU_hBPAgLIA
  19. I do accept her as a credible source. So let's look at exactly what she said: 'Sour and cynical...carping' Yes, I can believe all that. 'Insistence on inserting himself into other people's affairs' That's his comments about Ellsbury. I'd agree that the comments were ill-advised. Did they affect Ellsbury? I can't see how, considering he had an MVP-calibre season. 'turned him into a detriment' That's a pretty non-specific statement. You can put your own interpretation on how harsh of a criticism this was on Youkilis. It certainly doesn't sound to me like anything comparable to a Manny situation. As for what his teammates said, I'm sure if nobody had said anything, people would take that as a sign that the players didn't support him.
  20. See how Mazz slipped that last sentence in? He's not saying Beckett was an ace that year, he's saying he 'appeared to take the baton'. WTF does that even mean? I just enjoy poking holes in the columns of people like Mazz. The thing is that Beckett's ERA and WHIP were better last year than they were in 2007. So couldn't he possibly be good enough to lead a team to the World Series if he did it in 2007, and also in 2003?
  21. There are plenty of reports out there about the Red Sox having already had preliminary trade talks with teams about Youkilis. Pretty unlikely he doesn't get traded by the deadline.
