  1. Barring a rainout they don't have a day off until May 24. 4 against Cleveland starting tomorrow. With Beckett on the mound. Should be a warm reception.
  2. Are they trying to get Valentine fired? Seems like there has to be a logical explanation somewhere. He's starting to look old and weary. Wouldn't be a shock if he quit.
  3. The Sox are putting on a clinic in how to lose games. Every different way possible, even ones you never dreamed were possible, like getting beaten by a DH throwing 2 scoreless innings.
  4. You have to think that the brass is at least thinking about the prospect of trading him now. Only thing is it might be hard to do it without getting totally screwed.
  5. Check out the replay of the home run. Joyce fell down on his follow-through and looks like he might have hurt himself. Weird.
  6. Well, the Clayton Mortensen Era in Boston is off to a good start, at least.
  7. LMAO Mazz is the stupidest doofus sports writer in history. He counted Bard's relief appearance in his numbers and said Bard had 6 starts and was averaging only 5.1 innings per start. It's only been 5 starts. What an incredible moron Mazz is.
  8. We don't have the answer on Youkilis yet. But it's all in good hands with Ben Cherries.
  9. Padilla shouldn't have picked up that ball, but I think it will rate pretty low on the list of this season's Bonehead Plays for the team.
  10. Youkilis had some excellent seasons for us.
  11. Holy crap, Middlebrooks is putting some serious swings on the baseball. Wow.
  12. Seriously, I thought Valentine was supposed to be the great tactical guy. That inning would tend to disprove it.
  13. Sorry jung...guess I'm still dazed and confused from yesterday's game.
  14. jung, to make your case about the handling of the pitchers I think you need to compare the Red Sox to another team who you see doing things differently and doing it right. In yesterday's game Showalter seemed to use his bullpen pretty much exactly the same as Valentine did. Who uses a lot of relievers for short stints any more than Joe Maddon does? And the teams that made it to the World Series last year kept parading guys out of the pen in a steady stream. Like I say, who is doing this the right way?
  15. I just read the piece by Eric Wilbur. Vicious! I read the first few reader comments and Wilbur was getting blasted pretty good. He is one cynical dude. Gonzo may turn out to be a bust but it's much too early to write the guy off. I don't really get questioning his commitment. He shows up to play every day and he's been doing that for years.
  16. This is the first time I've said this, but if they could work out a trade for Beckett, preferably with an NL team, and get back a really good prospect or two, maybe they should do it. It would free up even more payroll room to go after an ace-type. I've always defended Beckett but there does seem to be a cloud surrounding the guy since last September.
  17. Pretty good piece by Abraham, I would say.
  18. I went with somewhat disappointed. I am definitely getting that gnawing feeling that his power has seriously tailed off, possibly because of the shoulder surgery and the idiotic Home Run Derby. And yes, I'm getting that gnawing feeling about his ability to step up and do big things in big moments like Ortiz or Manny.
  19. Youkilis, Matsuzaka and Junks-that's a total of 25 million AAV coming off the books. If you add Ortiz it's 40 million.
  20. I don't think the FO has to be 'honest' with the fans, Pumpsie. Intelligent fans can see what's going on in front of them and draw intelligent conclusions. Frankly I don't think the FO always knows what they're going to do next any more than we do. Some of this is 'read and react'. The way things are going, though, this season is going to reach a critical mass very early and I suspect the FO will act accordingly by promoting Lavarnway etc., and preparing to do things like trading Youk. But the trade deadline isn't until July.
