  1. Valentine has done a good job with the bullpen. But that may be the only thing he's done well.
  2. If this team deliberately set out to cause as much misery as possible for its fans this year, it couldn't have done a better job than this.
  3. Defence up the middle prevented a few runs there.
  4. His ineptitude against lefties is worse than his ineptitude against righties.
  5. Valentine has been pretty consistent with this, batting CC second against righties and seventh against lefties.
  6. The Dodgers acquired Blanton from the Phillies in a waiver claim, in return for cash or a PTBNL.
  7. Just looked at the log of Reddick's 2012 home runs on HR Tracker. Not one of them has been a cheap shot. The shortest one was 356 feet. 11 of them were over 400 feet. Pretty impressive.
  8. The best ERA among our starters is Doubie's 4.37, excluding Morales who has a 3.42 but only 26.1 IP. Pretty hard to get around a fact that ugly.
  9. It's the Fortune .500 Red Sox.
  10. So the FO doesn't add a starting pitcher at the deadline, and in the first 2 games after the deadline expires, Beckett gets hurt and Cook gets torched. Gotta love this 2012 season.
  11. Lester has a 7.39 ERA and 1.75 WHIP at Fenway this year. He might have to sharpen up on that just a bit.
  12. My guess is that the Scutaro trade is kind of symbolic to some people of our front office being stingy and full of s*** this year.
  13. Reddick is 0 for his last 21.
  14. The one thing I loved about Albers is that he has almost always pitched well against the Yankees. His numbers against them are so good it's hilarious.
  15. I think Clayton Mortensen would be deeply honored to know the level of discussion he has generated here.
  16. I'm sympathetic to your cause, Juiced... Mortensen has pitched 49.2 MLB innings in relief now. His numbers in those innings are pretty good. But it's still a small sample, less than a season, and mostly in low-leverage innings. We do need the sample to expand before we can draw any conclusions on the guy's long-term effectiveness.
  17. You gotta have a pretty weak lineup to have Scoots batting 5th.
  18. Assuming Beckett misses at least one start, this will be the fourth time since September/11 that he's had to do so. It's hard not to think that his physical conditioning or lack thereof is contributing to these issues.
  19. C'mon, he beat Justin Verlander last night.
  20. Since the White Sox played in Fenway, Youk is 4 for 37.
  21. At the very least it's hard to deny that Beckett has become very unreliable physically. This is his third issue so far this year, on top of the one that affected him last September, and missing most of 2010.
  22. I don't think so. The game reverts to the end of the previous inning. But if the Tigers had scored runs and tied it or gone ahead and then they called it, it would be treated as a suspended game. That was a rule change they put in a few years ago and it affected a game a couple of years ago.
  23. Nice bit of luck for a change. Works for me.
  24. I started the thread...didn't really care about the near no-no...I only mentioned Burnett because he's an ex-Yankee and I enjoy it when ex-Yankees do better than when they were on the Yankees.
