  1. Salty just hugged Aceves and patted him on the back. Damn what a clubhouse we have this year!
  2. Potential #1 draft pick Nathan MacKinnon of Cole Harbour, NS, finished his junior career in true superstar fashion. MacKinnon had 3 goals and 2 assists as the Halifax Mooseheads beat the Portland Winterhawks 6-4 in the Memorial Cup championship game.
  3. Rays are long overdue to have a season with a s***** bullpen. It would look good on them.
  4. Rodney and Jim Johnson are both s***ing themselves in spectacular fashion this year.
  5. UZR/150 takes range into account. I have read a fair number of comments on game threads about good plays he's made and how his defence is better than expected. But at the end of the day I think Iglesias settling as the long term SS will be the best thing. They could trade Drew or keep him as backup. With Middlebrooks injured and no depth at 3B we might need Iggy, Drew and Ciriaco.
  6. Drew has played well above average D though. Only one error and a UZR/150 of +21.8. Plus he did have a nice hot streak with the bat. That being said I think Iglesias has also shown well. I won't be surprised if Drew is traded.
  7. I think the only way the Sox contemplate a significant trade, assuming they stay in contention, is if they are really hurting at a specific position. Such as if Dempster and Doubront are both sucking, or a key player gets injured.
  8. Nava's OPS right now is .894. You're making an assumption based on very little history.
  9. I also post on the Boston Globe forum, and sometimes on a small site called STFU. I used to post on Sawxheads. No idea about the Bellhorn fansite. It was mainly a joke when I used him for my screen name.
  10. Funny thing, the other Sox sites seem to work that way too.
  11. 30-20. Not bad at all.
  12. What is that - a platinum sombrero?
  13. I thought you wanted high OBP at the top of the order. Gomes has a career .381 OBP against lefties - .350 this year.
  14. OK, let's consider what Bourn got then. 4 years, 48 million for a guy with a career OPS of .707. Ellsbury should be able to attract an offer in that neighborhood at least. Granderson just needs to get healthy again and he should attract more than that with his power numbers. It would be very risky for them to turn down 50 million guaranteed. I'm just guessing at all this of course. But this past offseason indicated that teams are willing to throw 40 million or more at middling players if they at least had a good season or two recently.
  15. I don't know, if BJ Upton can get 5 for 75, Ellsbury & Granderson could still do OK.
  16. 2 things: 1) If Victorino was healthy this week it's quite possible Farrell would have inserted him at leadoff. 2) As bad as Ellsbury has been going, the Sox are 7-3 in their last 10 and have scored 55 runs. So it's not like he's been killing them.
  17. They are swimming in money, but it's safe to say they didn't know how bad his elbow was. He seemed healthy at the end of 2009.
  18. Very encouraging so far to say the least. We now have two guys on our staff, Lackey and Tazawa, doing superbly in the wake of TJ surgery.
  19. Have to put in a plug for the Halifax Mooseheads, who will be playing in the Memorial Cup final game on Sunday, for the junior hockey championship of Canada.
  20. Salty has improved IMO. At least from the perspective that we are winning games now when he catches. We are 19-11 in his starts at catcher. His CERA still isn't great but that seems to be mainly because of a few blowout losses.
  21. He no longer plays SS though, and probably couldn't play SS for more than a game here or there.
  22. Well, we're sort of catching a break because Sale was originally scheduled to pitch. But Santiago has decent numbers and we have been sucking against lefty starters. Naps, Middlebrooks, Gomes, can you please rectify this situation tonight?
  23. I don't even like arguing with you because I like your point of view and I usually agree with you. Nonetheless, I prefer OPS a little bit to OBP. OPS is a crude little combination, but I do think SLG has to be given its due. If we use the years 2011-2013 Salty's OPS is about .750 and the average AL catcher is just a shade over .700. Obviously you're right that Salty's OBP for 2011-2012 was low even for a catcher. If he could keep up his current 2013 OPS all year that'd be pretty good. Doubtful he will though. Bottom line for me on Salty is that I have no big issues with his offense. It's his defence I'm concerned with.
  24. But the average catcher is even shittier.
