  1. Stephen Drew seems to take even more called third strikes than his brother did.
  2. Need runs desperately, especially with Clay's pitch count threatening to limit him to 6 innings.
  3. Bullpens are crazy things. For a while there in the early going we looked to have a strong, deep pen. Then Aceves blows up, Hanrahan is shaky and goes on the DL, and now Bailey is MIA. And the Japanese duo are getting overcooked.
  4. f***ing Yankees were down 4-1, now 4-4. Seems like about a 98% chance the final score is 5-4 Yankees.
  5. Yes. Certainly not performance. Dude is good.
  6. Can't say I'm feeling great about today's game. Hopefully I'm wrong.
  7. Texas has always been a graveyard for the Sox, going back to the Seventies. Their record there has always been brutal. But before the Rangers got really good we also used to pound them in Fenway.
  8. They may not be pummelling us, but with a combined score of 12-1 they are handling us rather easily.
  9. If Napoli doesn't miss time because of his hip, of course, his salary will be $13 million. With Napoli at $13 million the Red Sox would be at about $173 million for tax purposes, or $5 million under the cap. But it won't be a huge deal if they go a little over the cap this year. Next year is when all the new penalties kick in and the cap increases to $189 million.
  10. Verducci makes a pretty strong case that whatever Buch has on his arm, it isn't rosin. Rosin doesn't shine like that. Verducci's position seems to be this : 'yes, he's cheating, a little...but so are many other pitchers, and that's why the Jays didn't make a fuss about it.'
  11. SI's Verducci's analysis: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mlb/news/20130503/clay-buchholz-spitball-red-sox-blue-jays-joey-votto-matt-harvey/?sct=uk_t11_a4
  12. They were actually virtually tied a couple of weeks ago I think, and I mentioned it at the time. Ross has caught 39% of the innings, so it's not that small of a sample. I really didn't mean to start up this argument with you again. I've certainly been encouraged by the fact we've had a lot of well-pitched games with Salty. I think it's just a couple of games that have unbalanced things. But as UserName said, you can't just toss aside the numbers like they don't exist.
  13. Bingo...10 times as much product.
  14. The accountants for Anibal Sanchez and B. J. Upton think baseball is doin' just fine.
  15. Forbes Magazine March 27, 2013 The average MLB team is valued at $744 million, 23% higher than last year.
  16. But again, revenues are up. Just check out Forbes Business of Baseball reports. Or the price the Dodgers sold for.
  17. Baseball attendance may be down, but TV revenues are way up and market values of teams are way up.
  18. In what way is baseball dying a slow death?
  19. The CERA gap between Ross and Salty is widening. Ross 2.69 Salty 3.85. If it continues it'll be the third straight year Salty is more than a run worse than the other catcher. For whatever reason, whenever we give up a pile of runs like the 9-7 game, it seems like Salty's behind the plate. Overall he does seem to be better though.
  20. If this keeps up he'll be 'Demps'.
  21. I can understand your skepticism. But this would be an extremely weird way to go about giving Hanrahan back the job. And needless to say, if Hanrahan doesn't get the job done everyone would be screaming for Bailey very quickly. So for now I'll buy the sore bicep story.
  22. But even if that were so, you'd think Bailey would have pitched somewhere in this series.
  23. No, Bailey must have a health issue of some kind. Hopefully a minor and temporary one. I'm pretty sure we'll know by tomorrow what it is.
  24. Sox beat writers Abraham & Finn also wondering what's up with Bailey.
