  1. Nava and Salty are so futile hitting from the right side. Give up the switch-hitter charade boys.
  2. Yes, he's a very surprising guy all around.
  3. Another baseball mystery: how the hell is 36-year old Bruce Chen, with a career ERA of 4.49, suddenly pitching so well?
  4. Leyland pinch-hit for Iggy last night in the 8th. In a tie game, with nobody on base, with .248 hitter Andy Dirks. Ouch...says a lot about how Leyland sees Iggy's value.
  5. If he finishes this season upright, there's no way Ellsbury can accept a QO. The example of Michael Bourn may be an apt one, but at the end of the day Bourn got a guaranteed 48 million, potential 60 million. That has to be quite a bit less than the worst-case scenario for Ellsbury.
  6. Well, you couldn't draw up a better night than that. Sox win in dramatic fashion, Rays and Yankees both blow late leads to lose. And to make it all even sweeter, Bartolo Colon got knocked around by Cincy, lasting only 2.2 and taking the loss.
  7. Hopefully they will blow it.
  8. And the Yankees lose in CRUSHING fashion. 4-0 lead with CC on the mound. 4-3 lead with Mo in to close in the 9th. Blown save. 5-4 lead in the bottom of the 12th with 2 outs and nobody on. 6-5 loss.
  9. Drew is on fire. Last 12 games, 17 hits and 10 walks, 4 HR and 12 RBI. His OPS is now up to .778. Thank you Ben Cherington.
  10. Yeah, he's been teetering between mediocre and just plain s*****, and tonight may be the tipping point.
  11. That's the spirit. And let me add, Carp is due.
  12. Wow, what a bad night for Carp. Our 5 spot is awful lately.
  13. Indeed. When you score a run on an inning-ending double play you really must take it.
  14. Without looking it up, I'm going to guess...drugs and rest.
  15. Yeah, very true. That particular pitch was indeed a ball. Although sadly, in the realm of bad calls it was nothing you would call egregious. I've come to the conclusion that we'll never, ever see automated ball and strike calls, and maybe just as well. It would be too profound of a change. I think we'll definitely see expansion of replay. On balls and strikes we may see MLB do more monitoring of umps that fall too far outside the norm.
  16. Drake Britton has been a godsend so far.
  17. FanGraphs has Victorino with a UZR/150 of +41 runs.
  18. We don't know the exact reasoning behind the decision. Maybe Workman's innings limit for this year precludes him from being a starter the rest of the way.
  19. As has already been pointed out, with the same guy on the hill 5 days earlier Houston shut out the Orioles. It means little. It's just the same 'surprising' s*** that happens in baseball over and over again.
  20. Everybody's different, that's for sure. If people want to be upset and say it's shameful and embarrassing etc. to lose to the Astros, they have the perfect right. I disagree that losing one game to the Astros is shameful and I pointed out that other teams are losing games to them too. It's more like the law of averages taking effect.
  21. Yes, that's the other thing we don't know about. And Doubront is a pretty solid guess on the second pitcher they were asking for.
  22. This is exactly why I steer away from game threads. It sucks to lose to Houston but I see nothing to be gained by pouring out my frustration for others to read. Houston has won at least one game against every team they've played this year except for 0-3 vs. Minnesota. 2-4 vs. Baltimore 1-2 vs. NYY 2-5 vs. Tampa 1-4 vs. Red Sox
  23. Looks like he was underrated then, after blanking the Birds and us for 7 innings apiece. Houston has been winning 1 out of 3. We have to keep it that way.
