  1. Well said.
  2. Even Dempster hasn't been a disaster. 157 innings and 13 Quality Starts. Way overpaid but as I say, not a disaster by any means.
  3. Nava is 5th in the AL in OBP, behind only Cabrera, Trout, Mauer & Ortiz. Gotta love it.
  4. Frankly a Nava type doesn't come along that often, not just for the Sox but for any team. Last year we had guys predicting he'd be pumping gas by now and suggesting the Sox trade him while he had a bit of value.
  5. Love to see Napoli & Middlebrooks take this kid to school the hard way.
  6. Rays have lost 10 of 13 including 8 of 11 in their run vs. AL West teams. Suck on that Goofy Genius.
  7. Napoli vs. Yankees updated: 333/447/601 - 1049 OPS.
  8. In 39 career starts vs. the Yankees Napoli has 9 HR and 34 RBI. His slash line against them BEFORE tonight was 319/430/563.
  9. It's the damnedest thing. I looked in on the game a couple of times tonight and I could swear I saw BOTH the late Phil Hughes and the late Joba Chamberlain pitching for the Yanks. Must have had too much to drink or something.
  10. Drew has been very competent. His WAR of 2.7 is 10th among ML SS's. He's also been, dare I say it, CLUTCH.
  11. You mean like when he did it with Lester two games earlier and Lester had a clean 7th and we won 2-1? Funny how nobody made a fuss over that. Come on man, it's not that simple. Peavy had a good 6th inning, he was at the bottom of the order and he was on a short leash. Thornton was a bad choice, obviously. Should have used Breslow there.
  12. Theo Epstein certainly deserves his fair share of criticism, particularly, I guess, for the financial hole he dug the team into in 2011. I'll always give him big credit for helping assemble two title teams though. I said help, because it was clearly a group achievement. People say he left the team in a big mess. That's only partially true IMO. It took one blockbuster trade to clean up the mess and reset things. A lot of the current team and top prospects come from the Epstein era.
  13. A long way to go, and not all his moves have turned out well, but on balance Cherington has done an impressive job assembling the 2013 team.
  14. A strategy point that came to mind in last night's game: A lot of managers like to arrange their lineup with lefty and right hitters alternating as much as possible. The Yankees lineup last night was a perfect example. The main thing that this accomplishes is that it makes bullpen matchups more difficult for the opposing team. In the 7th inning Thornton came in and faced Gardner-Jeter-Cano. So he got to face two lefties but had a righty planted in the middle. Then Tazawa came in and faced Soriano-Granderson-A-Rod. Again there's the lefty hitter in the middle. I don't know productive this strategy really is, no way of measuring I guess, but I do see the reasoning behind it.
  15. Just guessing but the way things are developing, it looks like Lloyd may have been murdered because he knew about and was talking about a previous murder.
  16. An actual thread title from the Boston Globe Sox forum: Drew...Berry...More.
  17. Unfreakinbelievable. The media is going to christen this as a classic game and it probably was.
  18. There's one other baseball game to keep our eye on tonight. Buchholz is pitching for the PawSox.
  19. The Red Sox have 11 players with at least 200 PA's. Of the 11, 9 of them have an OPS of .775 or higher. The 2 that don't are Gomes at .751 and WMB at .703. That is some fantastic depth and balance on offence.
  20. Buchy Boy pitches again for PawSox tonight.
  21. Didn't Nolan Ryan pass on Koji Uehara too?
  22. One of the very first signs.
  23. Nava's OPS is up to .840. Dojji is also excited.
  24. Hey, I set him up for it.
