No, it looks more like Tanaka will be able to negotiate with every team that puts up the posting fee. So it'll be not much different from the usual free agency auction. This should also mean Tanaka will get a much bigger contract, with the posting fee lower. The Yankees will have a clear shot at him if they're willing to keep the spending spree going.

I fully expect Ellsbury to have a kick-ass season next year. That first season with a new team guys can be really jacked to show what they've got. After that is when it will start to get interesting.

An .830 OPS is not empty power. You can't maintain an .830 OPS without being a well-above-average offensive producer.

Maybe it's just me, but the option year in a deal like this seems so irrelevant. Whether your projections for Ellsbury are on the positive or negative side, it's hard to imagine him kicking ass all the way into the year 2021.

I'd say even better than mid-rotation. Fister had an ERA+ of 128 with Detroit. That's at least a #2 on most teams.
