  1. Hey Dipre, good to see you here. Fried has been an elite talent, but there seem to be bad trends with his health and effectiveness. Flaherty and Severino would definitely be on the list of guys they should be looking at.
  2. Sam the Sham doesn't want to talk about payroll numbers because he thinks that would give the team a "competitive disadvantage". Why do I find that so hard to reconcile with his announcement back in January that he expected the 2024 payroll to be lower than the 2023 payroll - when there were still a pile of unsigned free agents? That's our Sammy though.
  3. I disagree. The Royals had a +43 differential in their 13 games with the White Sox, but they also had a +48 differential in their other 149 games. So it's not like they sucked against everyone else. The Red Sox had a pitiful differential of +3 in their 7 games with the White Sox and a +1 in their other 155 games. I think both teams are where they should be.
  4. A somewhat dispiriting take on the Sox end of season press conference from OTM: https://www.overthemonster.com/2024/10/2/24259052/the-red-sox-offseason-is-already-off-to-a-frustrating-start The key point I guess being Breslow's apparent uneasiness with the question of pursuing a high-priced starter.
  5. And he's been an innings chomper since 2020.
  6. Yeah, a lot of our blown saves were a group effort.
  7. He also finished the year very strong.
  8. He was a reclamation project and a pretty pricey one at that. Horrible, horrible work on the rotation it was. They kind of deserved what they got.
  9. I agree with moon in that I hope the Red Sox aren't looking for any more reclamation projects to add to the rotation.
  10. What could they possibly know?
  11. OK, well, Max tends to say some things that are "not in evidence", as we touched on recently with his "Dombrowski wanted to keep Betts from the Dodgers" comments. I don't know about the other people you're referencing. No one can honestly claim that the Braves knew anything about Sale that the Red Sox didn't. I assume they did know more than us because they had access to Sale's medical records, but that's about it.
  12. No. I think we'd all prefer to sign guys with clean health records. I'm just saying most pitchers are health risks now. Yamamoto was supposed to be a unicorn and all that.
  13. And where are the sure things?
  14. True. That was one nutty offseason for the Dodgers with Ohtani, Moto and Glasnow, AAV is only 46.07 million though. 😎
  15. The DBacks owner also railed against MLB for the Mets-Braves doubleheader thing. Not without some justification, but his team could have prevented the situation by winning 1 more game. What he said about Montgomery really crossed into George S. "fat toad" territory.
  16. Hey, I would love to see those posts about how the Braves "knew something".
  17. Denny's Jabroni Metrics. 😁
  18. Oh, I know all about it. And the Rangers knew a lot of it when they signed him. They were gambling, because of the elite level talent. The Dodgers did the same with Glasnow. Not to mention Yamamoto. Both got injured already! The injuries to top level pitchers are just an epidemic at this point and there's no real way to steer around them. The Sox thought Giolito was a healthy horse. Nope. Cole missed a lot of time this year. And whoever the Sox finally do make a move for will not come with a guarantee of clean health either.
  19. The problem with Soto is that the Yankees and Mets are both highly motivated and will be going toe to toe for him. We're just kidding ourselves if we think Henry wants any part of that.
  20. Man, he is a pretty good comp for Sale-ability, age, recent injury history. The big difference is the $111 million left on the contract.
  21. There's just no comparison in the situations. The Braves got Sale on the cheap. That's what really mitigated their risk. deGrom would be full price - 37 million * 3.
  22. And we have no idea what Texas's plans are. They invested a lot of money in Jacob, along with of course Seager and Semien. They seem like a team that's still in go for it mode, despite a bad 2024. The 2022-2024 Rangers are somewhat reminiscent of the 2012-2014 Red Sox. From the outhouse to the penthouse and then right back to the outhouse.
  23. Needless to say it's far removed from the realm of possibility. But I would prefer the Red Sox go after someone younger if they're up for a big move.
