  1. He was also very good in 2023. What reason is there to think he won't stay good? None - except wheeler dealer hunches. 😄
  2. Trading your best player doesn't usually make you better. To me that's a pretty simple concept too.
  3. Are we talking a straight-up wager on whether they trade Duran or not, Wheeler Dealer Red? 😁
  4. "Sell high" is treating it like a get-rich-quick investment.
  5. Not offering complete player Mookie market value and then paying almost the same money to incomplete player Devers - it's all a part of the warped thought processes since Henry had his breakdown in 2019.
  6. Since 1.00 is an excellent WHIP, it would be more logical to assume the 8th is the 4-5-6-7 hitters and the 9th is the 8-9-1-2 hitters, which is quite different.
  7. Although it's not likely to happen, I like moon's idea of trading Yoshida to the Jays, bringing back Gausman, throwing in some money or another player to make it happen. To me that's the kind of creative move Breslow should be looking at.
  8. "Sell high" as a methodology is bullfeathers 😉, folks, any good investor knows that. Warren Buffett said you can't time the market. That's not how you make your decisions.
  9. Right, but very few players are even capable of posting a 7-8 win season. I do think it's a little crazy for fans of a team that is in such a dry spell to be so keen to dispatch their best and most exciting player. I get it, it's just armchair wheeler dealer fantasy/entertainment. The Red Sox have plenty of money to sign good starting pitchers. I'm really starting to warm up to the idea of Flaherty. You don't have to trade Jarren Duran to get Flaherty. I'd rather see them punt another season than do something as rash as trading Duran.
  10. Correlation something something causation .
  11. Raffy might also turn into Mr. Aches and Pains. He had a bunch of issues this year. We could go back and forth on this for a long time. It's all in Brez's hands. He's got a lot to figure out. I will however place my bet that Duran doesn't get traded.
  12. Agreed, but Duran is not necessarily a clone of Ellsbury either. And Duran is a cheap controlled asset at the moment. Who knows, Brez might do it. It would really take some major cojones.
  13. Sure, let's just trade away our best player - again.
  14. Nothing is guaranteed. We could trade for a pitcher who gets injured right away. Pitchers are the riskiest commodity of all.
  15. I get that. But as I said, our offense was not really such a big strength this year, and removing Duran from it would not help. Past blockbuster trades for starters-Pedro/Schilling/Beckett/Sale have always been prospects only, I believe. There's probably a really good reason for that.
  16. Hey, this is the place for the wildest of wild speculation.
  17. Who knows? The point is, he was by far, not even close, the best position player on the team. And he was injury-free. I like his chances of still being good next year.
  18. You might actually be able to make a case that Teel is the one guy who's untouchable. Star catchers might be the rarest commodity in baseball over its history.
  19. What should temper anyone's enthusiasm for trading Duran is the realization that our offense turned out not to be a strength in 2024. One of the articles from our new writers highlighted this. Given that, trading away offense might be pretty darn stupid. Brez has quite a conundrum on his hands. It's really hard to figure out what the right play would be.
  20. We have guaranteed replacements-plural-for Duran and his 7-8 win season? Man, our future in even better shape than I thought.
  21. I honestly don't know what they had against Wacha. He pitched pretty good for us and his price tag has been eminently reasonable by current standards.
  22. I think Henry neither wants to be Fried by Max nor suffer Burnes from Corbin.
