  1. You'd need a lot of top prospects going the other way to land Hamels and Cueto.
  2. I'm not at all convinced they'll pay what it takes to get Shields. A few teams will be in on him too. His price will exceed any valuation they place on him.
  3. Lester must have gotten the whole family involved in this. That's why it's takin' so damn long.
  4. Yes, but I think this is in Lester's hands only now.
  5. I'm probably going to find about it by opening up the BDC forum and seeing 5-10 threads about it already going.
  6. The Lester watch has turned into quite the eleventh-hour melodrama. It's reported the Red Sox had another meeting with his agents not long ago.
  7. I'll drink to that idea but at this point I don't think Lester and Hamels is realistic.
  8. It's only limited in the sense of what the best return we can get for him is.
  9. And he has no problem lying with a straight face (Cespedes).
  10. Didn't Farrell also say something about where Cespedes will be playing for us next year though? I will be shocked and enraged if they trade Betts. I don't think they'll do it, no way.
  11. 4/80 ain't happening. I expect he'll get at least 110 million.
  12. Definitely not. But he's going to be crazy overpaid too. The losers on Lester will be immediately looking his way.
  13. There are also a lot of rumors circling that the Yankees have emerged as one of the teams in on Lester.
  14. And you might be able to get him for a hair under $200 million.
  15. I'm going to play devil's advocate here and suggest that the market may stay absurdly high for a few more years. There are more teams now with money to throw around. It's at a point where even the richest teams can't find any easy route to upgrading their team. If Cherington can put together a playoff-caliber rotation without blowing the budget sky-high or raping the farm, it'll be his finest hour.
  16. His trade value is limited as you said, but I think there are a number of teams interested in him. 100 RBI's still means something.
  17. I'm not going to the dark side, seriously. About 90% of the time I'm still even-keeled about it all. Some things I do get emotional about. Losing a guy like Lester is one of them. But I'll get over it.
  18. I'll say this - he shouldn't be written off. When he's healthy he can be a hell of a player. I think we're all just very cynical about his health issues ever going away.
  19. I think it's pretty clear the Red Sox will deal Cespedes, and probably could have dealt him already to more than one team, but they're holding out for a better offer.
  20. Lester decision reportedly coming tonight or tomorrow.
  21. Based on some of the stuff I'm hearing, my gut feeling is that Lester is going to the Giants.
  22. You probably won't like how many years and dollars Shields gets either - it'll be too much of each, you can be sure of that.
  23. I read that piece. It's kind of a jumbled mess IMO
  24. There are other possibilities. But I just don't see how it's a sure thing we can swing a good deal for an ace. The names of Cueto and Sale keep getting tossed around but no one knows if they're actually available.
  25. Personally I fail to see that Lester can be 'easily' replaced, unless you consider giving Scherzer 180 million or Shields 110 million or trading Swihart/Owens/whoever for Hamels and taking on his 110 million easy. As for Cueto, does anybody actually know the Reds want to deal him, or will deal him without being 'blown away'?
