    That's understandable. But there can be risk involved in that as well. If Miley gets off to a great start the price goes up and maybe he and his agent say 'We'll talk after the season.' I don't think the Sox would have done this unless they thought it could save them a lot of money.

    The lack of defensive replacements is certainly something Farrell should have been asked about after the game. If anybody can find any comments from him about it please post them. Drives me nuts when you don't get any sort of explanation for things like this.

    Not yet. I have no interest in it, and it baffles me how people get so invested in fantasy leagues without even having any money involved in it. Just another time-wasting phenomenon of the internet age. But to each their own, obviously. I burn tons of time on baseball forums so I'm in no position to criticize.

    The fact that the people we're talking about don't know we exist isn't relevant. You can say that about almost all the people who get discussed in the 'court of public opinion.' If you feel someone is being unfairly maligned you have every right to defend them in a forum. Going after another poster personally is a whole other matter.

    To me major league baseball gets more befuddling all the time. We were all laughing our asses off at how bad the Yankees offense would be, and here they are second in the league in scoring.

    One more reason I like WAR so much now - I look at Baseball-Reference and Holt had a 2.1 WAR last year in 106 games. He's definitely a valuable guy when you factor in his low cost. I like the fact that the Sox kept both him and Nava around. We have the makings of an outstanding bench.

    If it was a 4 year contract it would have been reasonable value. The fifth year they got absolute zero from him.
