  1. The problem with the Hanley signing, which we now know, is that he was signed to play LF, and he's a truly horrific outfielder. He's a DH. I'm still baffled as to what the plan with the outfield was from the beginning. So many bodies-Hanley, Victorino, Craig, Betts, Castillo, Nava.
  2. I had to point the finger at Ben. He's the guy who configured this roster with a lot of money and prospects at his disposal.
  3. Can you name the contracts where Theo overpaid by 50%?
  4. Well, just look at our record from 2003 to 2011 for starters. Those were the good old days, man.
  5. Theo negotiated some very good contracts IMO, not all of them of course, but quite a few.
  6. The mistake there was betting that Youk would be just fine at third for several more years.
  7. If Ben knew Donaldson was available and made no play for him, then yes, I agree absolutely, it was a royal f***-up.
  8. The big rumor about the Donaldson trade was that he said something that dissed Beane, Billy freaked out and wanted him traded ASAP.
  9. Timing is the question. Sandoval signed with us on November 25. Donaldson was traded on November 28. What did Ben know, and when did he know it?
  10. The Red Sox are 10-20 against the other AL East teams.
  11. I'm with ya Spud. Although I do have to admit a lot of my watching these days is on Gameday, because it's less painful.
  12. When JBJ had his cup of coffee this year he only played 3 games, all against top starters. What was the point? Just more mismanagement, it seems.
  13. Miley's contract is peanuts, relatively speaking.
  14. But that of course assumes the next 4.6 years will be the same as the first .4 years.
  15. If the offense does get it going and we stay in the race, the Sox might trade for Cueto. But the Reds aren't expected to make him available until after the All-Star Game. So that's a month to see what's what.
  16. How can they fix the offense, that's the $184 million question.
  17. I think we need that picture of the Sewer Horse that served us so well in 2013.
  18. Moves? Like what - trading our whole team for the Cardinals whole team LOL? This season is screwed unless the players we have now somehow turn it around. So yeah, this season is probably screwed. We'll be sellers again. Wait till next year!
  19. Or was 2013 an anomaly. You say enigma, I say anomaly.
  20. I hate the Orioles because they've been killing us since September/11. We're 26-46 against them since then.
  21. Sandoval got off to a pretty good start. I think maybe his fat & jolly soul has been steadily sucked down into the morass of failure & negativity surrounding him. (That was mainly a joke.)
  22. Sandoval & Middlebrooks.
  23. My guess is that Henry and the rest of the FO are in shock at what they've seen. They made a lot of moves and spent a lot of money and almost all of it has backfired. At the moment they're not sure exactly what to do. But history tells us they won't just sit back and watch it for the next several months.
  24. Shoulda just kept Cespedes for left field, it seems. But we could play do-overs all day.
  25. How is it possible that the Phillies haven't traded Hamels or Paps already? It's amazing how long they've held onto them.
