  1. Our starting rotation is so bad that many of us, including me, have looked at Miley as one of the bright lights. But he has a 4.68 ERA (an ERA+ of 88), and he has averaged less than 5.8 innings per start.
  2. OK, well, you do agree that it was a failure to sign Lester. And that was a huge one. They just got so many things wrong. What made them think Craig would rebound? What made them think Masterson would regain the lost speed on his fastball? What made them think Hanley could do the job in left? It seems like they made a bunch of guesses in the dark, and they were all dead wrong.
  3. They spent to compete though.
  4. Yes, that's my position too. Trading Lackey would have made sense if we were rebuilding.
  5. But what about 'local' revenues - let's say all Red Sox merchandise sold in the city of Boston. What I read is that only 34% of 'net local revenue' goes to the revenue-sharing program.
  6. Not exactly. He'd pitched well for 1.67 years, or since he had the surgery. And he was under contract through 2015.
  7. Yes, they should. But it doesn't seem to be the plan.
  8. If you can find some clear information on this please share with us where it us.
  9. He'll kill us at first too. And reportedly doesn't want to play there. We have to get rid of him.
  10. If we had kept Lester and Lackey there'd be no Porcello.
  11. The more I think about it the more I think we have to trade Hanley for whatever we can, eating a pile of money, obviously. If we don't, his fielding will kill us again next year.
  12. Not signing Lester, trading Lackey, expecting that Hanley would be fine in left field - those are the 3 critical failures to me, to be charged to whoever made the decisions. The Masterson signing also deserves mention - the guy was done and somehow they didn't know it.
  13. Hanley and Sandoval both having negative WAR's has to make you wonder if Farrell isn't a significant part of the problem. You have to wonder if these guys have their heads in the game.
  14. Sandoval was a much better regular season player with San Fran than he has been with us. He wasn't just a total stiff in the regular season who turned into Babe Ruth in the playoffs.
  15. Hanley has a minus 1.2 fWAR right now.
  16. They only share a % of their local revenue with other teams. The basic amount is 34%. Then there's some sort of supplemental thing which is impossible to explain. But the bottom line is they still keep most of the money for Panda merchandise sold at Fenway.
  17. I don't see sound reasons for the trade if we're not looking beyond 2015.
  18. My basic question about the Lackey trade to the Sox FO would be this: did they expect that this would make us a better team in 2015? Forget about 2016 and beyond, I want to know about 2015.
  19. I certainly agree that the FO has remained fully invested in the team especially with the payroll. Now, as far as controlling what happens on the field, they can't do that directly, but they can certainly impact it with additional personnel moves during the season.
  20. What makes you think the wild card games don't qualify as postseason, playoff games?
  21. Check out this tweet from Brian MacPherson during last night's game: Cherington did not sound like the plan is to move Ramirez or Sandoval to another position in the second half. His words: "We're more focused on how we continue to help guys in the spots they're in show us what they can do, figure out what their ceilings are." I'm shaking my head trying to comprehend this. He's talking about $183 million of talent here. We're helping them, seeing what they can do and figuring out their ceilings?
  22. I don't disagree there, but when is it officially established?
  23. Isn't the quote 'serious playoff contender' though?
  24. Sandoval's marketability as 'Panda' would also have a lot of appeal to Werner.
