  1. That's a very good, if politically incorrect, analogy.
  2. SinceYaz is one of the nicest Sox fans you will ever meet. BDC emigrants need a little training, that's all. Over there some people would start 3 threads a day and it was considered normal behavior. Moving over here is like transitioning from the NL West to the AL East.
  3. It was a great trade for us. We don't have to face Syndergaard hardly at all, and Dickey helped Steven Wright perfect his knuckler.
  4. I was agreeing with you that his age was the issue. He was 38.5 years old when he threw his first pitch for the Jays.
  5. Exactly, if he was a young Cy Young winner it'd be a different story.
  6. Sox faced LHP 28% of the time last year. That is definitely a low number, I think the average is around 32%. Just have to hope Young makes it pay off with some AB's against lefties in big moments - which will come, hopefully.
  7. I agree, but there's still a kind of inbred sentiment among a lot of Sox fans that you have to prove yourself against the EE, even when they're sucking a bit.
  8. Cubs have a run differential of +79 (136-57) in 22 games.
  9. Jays traded him and Travis D'Arnaud to Mets for R. A. F'ing Dickey. Disastrous.
  10. Might still be some hope left for Buchholz. He had a 5.76 ERA in April last year and pitched great after that...until he got hurt.
  11. Welcome notin. You will be a great addition here. (You knew me on BDC as Hfxsoxnut.)
  12. Owens was pretty brutal last time out. Hopefully he's much better tonight.
  13. I have this odd feeling Buchholz is going to end up with the Cubs. Theo always had a bit of a man-crush on him, and he seems to like having ex-Sox pitchers.
  14. The only real downer about this game is Buchholz.
  15. He'll probably pitch a gem next time out. He's the most frustrating Red Sox player I've ever tried to be a fan of.
  16. Personally I think it's a pretty demanding job, and that in game managing can be a very significant part of it. Certainly there are many games when the in game decisions are straightforward, but if the game is close in the late innings the manager really has to be on top of the situation and making the correct moves.
  17. 4 bad outings out of 5 for Clay. His doom is near at hand.
  18. CliffKlowers sounds about 100% like a BDC poster named Pike, who was permanently banned from the forum. If he's true to form most of his posts will be about other posters.
  19. He's only had 25 plate appearances. One or two good games and his OPS jumps 200 points.
  20. Headley has a slugging pct. of .148. That's hard to do.
  21. Hanley's attitude has been good, his work at 1B better than expected. Unfortunately, according to FanGraphs he's on pace to have a negative WAR again. Numbers can be cruel things.
  22. Steven Wright is no joke.
  23. One of the best testimonials for Varitek's pitch-calling came from Schilling when he had the 8.2 no-hitter. He said he only shook off Varitek 5-10 times, 'and it was one time too many'. http://espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=270607111
