  1. Correct answer...but you missed the post 4 above yours where it was already given.
  2. FanGraphs WAR for pitchers is based heavily on FIP - Fielding Independent Pitching. Price has a BABIP against of .373, which is crazy high. An inordinate number of balls in play off him are falling in for hits. In other words, cross your f'king fingers and hope FanGraphs is right about this s***.
  3. Chase has now eclipsed the century mark. 102 plate appearances without an EBH. And there's more - he ended last season on a run of 27 plate appearances without an EBH, including the playoff game. So his total streak stands at 129.
  4. 98 plate appearances and still not an extra-base hit.
  5. Let's examine the cost for Holliday: $17 million salary for 2016 = $ 5.67 million pro-rated + $1 million buyout on 2017 option = $6.67 million Add 30% luxury tax $2 million = $8.67 million Plus whatever we give up in trade
  6. All it takes is a few misplayed balls to hurt your defensive rating this early in the year. UZR/150 takes the small sample and extrapolates it to 150 games. I do remember earlier in the year some comments in game threads about Jackie making a few surprisingly bad plays. I'm quite confident he'll turn those numbers around.
  7. You just won't let up about that LFer will you? But seriously, who do you have in mind?
  8. One of the main reasons I like Holt is that I'm very fond of cheap controlled assets that are productive...they are what is making this team a success in spite of some bloated contracts that are producing little or nothing.
  9. Nothing. But they invested 13 million in Young to hit lefties. My belief is we're already at least average in left and we should be above average if Young hits lefties like he should. And offense is not our area of need. If we're going to upgrade it should be about pitching.
  10. Gotta like the Sox having an Irish pitcher with an acronym of SOS.
  11. Owens posted a 2.11 WHIP in his 3 starts so he didn't exactly set the bar sky-high.
  12. OPS is as much as the average fan can handle. Once the stats start looking like chemistry equations, I'm outa there.
  13. Just to be clear, a .725 is about exactly average for a left fielder these days.
  14. Yes, I get that, but it's not exactly an extensive history either...
  15. Right, but the point here was about closers performing worse in tie situations.
  16. We certainly have more grounds for confidence that Price will be fine. But a couple more 6 or 7 run outings and we'll all have good reason to worry.
  17. I'm surprised you don't find 100 points of OPS over a career significant. How much would it take to be a significant difference?
  18. Rivera Career OPS against .555 Career OPS against in tie games .655 Papelbon Career OPS against .588 Career OPS against in tie games .623 Kimbrel Career OPS against .471 Career OPS against in tie games .569
  19. Maybe a mental thing, but not really a psychological thing. I was talking about things that affect a player involuntarily, that they can't control. Like Lester's thing about not being able to throw to first base. That's psychological. Trying is something you control.
  20. Not really. I think it's considered to be more of a psychological thing.
  21. Yes, hopefully they were joke boos. Like the fake cheers players get sometimes when they finally do something right.
  22. It's been argued that it should be something like 60% OBP and 40% SLG. I've wondered why they don't give the average of the two instead of adding them together. It seems weird that a seemingly big number like .550 is a HORRIBLE OPS.
