  1. Farrell isn't changing the order, and Farrell knows what he's doing, right?
  2. That's a tricky one, because as Sox fans know all too well, bad decisions can cost you big games. It's kind of random, really, how often a managerial decision directly affects the outcome of a game. The biggest in game decisions are making the pitching changes at the right time with the right guy. More now than ever with the big workload carried by bullpens.
  3. The last guy who tried it may have sullied the image a bit by not only playing and managing but betting on the games.
  4. If Farrell advocated going with Shaw and Holt over Panda and Castillo, and bringing up Vazquez as quickly as possible, you definitely have to give him some credit for the team's performance.
  5. Mookie had 2 hits and a walk today.
  6. Ortiz is only the 3rd player in history with 500 HR's and 600 doubles. If that isn't Hall of Fame worthy I don't know what is.
  7. 2 Quality Starts out of 8 isn't getting it done.
  8. In the 2007 postseason our late inning outfield was Ellsbury in left, Crisp in centre and Drew in right. I still get the warm and fuzzies when I think about that outfield.
  9. J D Drew's baseball instincts were superb. He was also an excellent base runner.
  10. My philosophy is you don't make changes when you're going this good.
  11. Good question. The numbers say Machado, Davis and surprisingly, Trumbo, are carrying their offense. And their bullpen has been phenomenal - that might be the key right there.
  12. I was watching a Yankees game the other night and I saw that Phil Coke was back with them. I went on Baseball-Ref to see how he got there and I found this in his Transactions history: • October 30, 2014: Granted Free Agency. • March 5, 2015: Signed as a Free Agent with the Chicago Cubs. • May 26, 2015: Released by the Chicago Cubs. • May 31, 2015: Signed as a Free Agent with the Toronto Blue Jays. • June 22, 2015: Granted Free Agency. • June 27, 2015: Signed as a Free Agent with the Oakland Athletics. • August 19, 2015: Released by the Oakland Athletics. • March 9, 2016: Signed as a Free Agent with the Atlanta Braves. • March 26, 2016: Released by the Atlanta Braves. • April 25, 2016: Signed as a Free Agent with the New York Yankees. Holy crap, talk about making the rounds, 5 teams in a year. It shows you what some guys go through to try to stay in the big leagues.
  13. The offensive explosion is great, but the story last night was the good performance by Price.
  14. Ross is there for Lester of course.
  15. Funny thing is I was very disappointed in Mueller in the 2003 postseason. Little did I know what he would do in 2004.
  16. I think Ortiz has always been pretty good at hitting to left. 2 of the home runs he hit in the 2004 postseason were over the Monstah (one to win the series against the Angels and one in Game 5 of the ALCS.)
  17. Correct answer...but you missed the post 4 above yours where it was already given.
  18. FanGraphs WAR for pitchers is based heavily on FIP - Fielding Independent Pitching. Price has a BABIP against of .373, which is crazy high. An inordinate number of balls in play off him are falling in for hits. In other words, cross your f'king fingers and hope FanGraphs is right about this s***.
  19. Chase has now eclipsed the century mark. 102 plate appearances without an EBH. And there's more - he ended last season on a run of 27 plate appearances without an EBH, including the playoff game. So his total streak stands at 129.
  20. 98 plate appearances and still not an extra-base hit.
  21. Let's examine the cost for Holliday: $17 million salary for 2016 = $ 5.67 million pro-rated + $1 million buyout on 2017 option = $6.67 million Add 30% luxury tax $2 million = $8.67 million Plus whatever we give up in trade
  22. All it takes is a few misplayed balls to hurt your defensive rating this early in the year. UZR/150 takes the small sample and extrapolates it to 150 games. I do remember earlier in the year some comments in game threads about Jackie making a few surprisingly bad plays. I'm quite confident he'll turn those numbers around.
  23. You just won't let up about that LFer will you? But seriously, who do you have in mind?
