  1. As sk7326 has stated so well on this thread, they can't get better because it's an impossible task to call balls and strikes accurately.
  2. Nope. But he was a pillar of justice for one night.
  3. I'll definitely take a pass on that. And if he started doing it when I was buying him drinks, I'd buy him a bottle and leave.
  4. You can't really say money isn't an issue. If that were the case they would have signed another starting pitcher this offseason. Those bad contracts do affect what the team can do.
  5. The time is certainly now to try to turn Kelly into a reliever. He's that or nothing.
  6. The ironic thing about the much-maligned Joe West is that, from a Sox perspective, he turned in one of the greatest single-game umpiring jobs in history-or at least he was head of the crew that did. If I ever met the man I'd buy him drinks all night.
  7. The fact is they blew 2 9th inning leads. If they had won those 2 games they would have led the series 3-2. So it was really a very close series that turned on a couple of innings. That's baseball for ya.
  8. The good news is they have a day off next Monday so they could skip this spot in the rotation if they want.
  9. He really missed the high target Hanigan gave him on that pitch.
  10. You're not the first to say that. Kind of a dead ringer, really.
  11. I would agree with you if Owens was putting up good numbers for the PawSox, but he isn't. Since going back there he's had 5 starts. 26.1 IP 25 hits 20 walks 17 earned runs
  12. Joe Kelly 22.1 IP 31 hits 19 walks 2 HBP 21 earned runs ...and a no-hit bid mixed in there.
  13. Might is the operative word, since he only lasted 12.1 innings in his 3 major league starts. We have no depth.
  14. Kelly is going to put Buch right back in the rotation. Bastards.
  15. Such a traditionalist.
  16. 5 homers in 7 AB's - that can't have been done very often.
  17. Do you really think 3-4 days would make much difference? It's basically the same as the All-Star break.
  18. We already have replay and we already have overturned calls and the game isn't suffering. Balls and strikes is just the next step in the process.
  19. Yeah, way to give them a sense of individuality, George Sr.
  20. Now that's telling it like it is.
  21. I remember it, and through the miracle of Baseball-Reference, I can produce a lot of details about it. September 8, 1974 (at Fenway) Red Sox 8 Milwaukee 6 (Check out these pitchers for the Sox!) Starter Juan Marichal Winner Dick Pole Hold Bob Veale Save Diego Segui Sox RBI's: Evans 2 Carbo 2 Cooper Griffin Guerrero Beniquez Starting pitcher for Milwaukee - Eduardo Rodriquez
  22. And if you assume luxury tax of 30%, 28 million becomes 36.4 million.
  23. Lunatic.
  24. Porcello is actually in the first year of a 4 year/82.5 million extension, so his average salary is about 20.6 million.
