    The third baseman at the start of the 2013 postseason was Middlebrooks. They switched to Bogaerts because they didn't like what they were seeing from WMB. Sure there was risk involved, but they thought it was a necessary risk.

    B-R tells me Vazquez had 3 successful sac bunts in 2014, so he has at least demonstrated some capacity to get it done. I'm not a big fan of bunting either, believe me. But in that particular situation it may have been the right call. I'd like to let Kimmi make the final ruling on this one...because she knows all the research stuff that's been done on bunting.

    Fair enough. But with Trout under control through 2020, they shouldn't be in any hurry to trade him unless they get one of those 'blow you away' offers. With the Sox, such an offer has to start with Bogey or Betts, not just a bunch of unproven prospects.

    Angels are not a poor team and it doesn't take that long to put together a team that can at least contend for a Wild Card. Trout is a pipe dream.

    This is the 8th game in a row the opponent has scored first. In 6 of them they scored in the first inning.

    No doubt there are deficiencies in the camera installations. But the current replay system, including the 'Replay Operations Center' must cost a few dollars, don't you think?

    I think the only complete list of 103 that came out is widely considered to be bogus.

    And they'll inevitably reach a point where they simply can't get better and they're probably pretty close to it already. With an automated zone none of those umps who are a little weak on balls/strikes would lose their jobs.

    He might be done, but it's a little early to say. He pitched extremely well last year. But his time in Beantown is running out. He might do better for some small-market NL team with low expectations...

    Interesting thing about pinch hitting, and this isn't aimed at Farrell, but it usually fails. Red Sox pinch hitters have an OPS of .487. AL pinch hitters have an OPS of .612.

    I'd like to know the % of bad calls that are no-doubters, outside the gray zone, like the 2 against Bradley.

    This argument doesn't really work because the game was designed so long ago, in a whole different world. No one knows what Abner Doubleday would have thought of the new technology. Maybe he would have liked it.

    I enjoy the umps but only when they're making the right calls. When they blow calls I get angry at them.

    Baseball is such a precarious game. If we had scored with the bases loaded and no outs in Game 1....if Koji was still Koji...we'd be 2-1 in this series instead of 0-3.

    One of the eternal mysteries, isn't it? As I was absorbing the pain of last night's loss and 3 brutal ones in a row, it hit me - 'Oh my God, I'm already looking forward to tomorrow's game.'
