    Really? It's not much different from the way people got on Porcello last year. Or the way Sox fans always get on guys who are making huge money and underperforming. At the same time Price is a guy who deserves some extra patience with his track record and his obvious work ethic.

    Here are the quotes from Donaldson, which I thought were quite interesting, and balanced. “The first year or so hitters aren’t going to like it,” he said earlier this year. “You’re going to get those breaking balls that are in the dirt — big 12-to-6 curveballs that hit the plate — they’re going to be strikes. You’re going to get the high fastballs up there, they’re up, but they’ll be strikes.” “Day in and day out, our strike zones are different. I’ve been punched out two times this year at balls in my neck. I would be into it. If you could have the strike zone the same every day, you’d get used to it and have better awareness.”

    Yeah, that's the way I read it too. I just don't understand why they would try it. Easy enough to get caught, obviously. Should withhold judgment until verdict is in, I guess.

    Good point. On the same note, they're 14-2 in Kershaw games, 30-35 in other games.

    They're not pitching as well as Lester and Lackey, but try to imagine our pitching staff without them.

    We don't have many candidates. Uehara and Tazawa are possibilities.

    Selling our good pitchers is the last thing we want to do. (Remember the last time we did it?) Usually you sell guys who are closing in on the end of their contract.

    Stories from a couple days ago say the two sides are far apart in negotiations. Not very encouraging.

    In another article I read on this topic it was opined that the players don't want to go on record that they want the umps replaced because they think it might get them unfavorable treatment from the umps. Also, if you read Josh Donaldson's comments in this article, they are generally positive about making the change.

    Price could be wrong or Farrell could be wrong. The total disconnect in their statements tends to suggest nobody knows what the hell is going on, which, along with things like the stupid base running blunders, adds an element of buffoonery to the team's struggles.

    It seems to be the pattern this year. Lots of K's, lots of hits.

    Setting aside ERA for a moment, Price has given up a .735 OPS this year compared to .621 last year.

    Yes, although he had a good stretch for a while, a 4.74 ERA halfway through the season is not what we had in mind.

    Last year it was a May Meltdown that did us in.

    Horrible month...now 5.5 games back of the O's. Farrell is on thin ice again, I would say.
