  1. The Guardians are set up pretty well with Kluber and a rested Miller. Maddon really used Chapman a lot last night. Should be interesting.
  2. Just for accuracy, the home team has won 2 out 6, Games 1 and 5.
  3. I don't think any one would miss Chief Wahoo.
  4. Probably so. Looking back, though, the 4/70 offer could have been remedied by following up with a better one. Instead we had Sam Kennedy make a statement about the public 'not knowing all the data points' or something odd like that, and then Cherington himself saying how the Sox had been waiting for a counter-offer from Lester's team and were somewhat baffled that they didn't get one. All of which was made to look absurd when they ended up finally offering him 135 million.
  5. But are Braves fans still doing the tomahawk chop and the 'Oh oh ohohoh' chant?
  6. I've said that all along. (Although, of course, we could have had both.)
  7. No, you wouldn't want to make a habit of it. But Victorino was a big part of winning a ring so you'd do that one again, as you would with Keith Foulke.
  8. You're saying that chicken and beer really was behind the collapse of the pitching staff?
  9. Maybe so. Those discussions about who gets the credit become quite a tangled web. I think Ben should get the credit for 2013 even though a lot of the players were inherited.
  10. Who really knows why Lester pitched so badly in September 2011? Beckett wasn't that great either. It was a collective collapse by the pitching staff and nobody knows exactly why. That's why the chicken and beer story made sense to some people.
  11. 93 wins, 98 Pythagorean wins, and a division title is a good performance by the GM in my opinion. I always try to look at the big picture rather than on a move-by-move basis. People used to criticize Theo for a lot of his individual moves but his overall record was exemplary.
  12. No worries Dojji...we all are sometimes.
  13. Our pitching numbers ended up being pretty good. Not as good as Cleveland's. But there's also the old 'playoffs are a crapshoot' thing.
  14. Baseball has become a pitching-dominated game in recent years. And in the postseason, things are even more heavily stacked in favor of pitching. Maybe the biggest factor, which gets overlooked a little, is all the off days. Cleveland has only played 13 games in 28 days since the regular season ended. As a result Tito has been able to use his 2 best starters and 3 best relievers to cover most of the innings.
  15. I trust the team's front office to recognize that we have more than one need. I think you have acknowledged that a team needs some offense to get to the playoffs. Not arguing that once you get to the playoffs pitching tends to dominate.
  16. I know there is a basis for this line of thought, but the overall implications of it baffle me. It seems to imply that it doesn't matter if the manager leaves the starting pitcher in to get shelled, it doesn't matter if he brings in his worst reliever instead of his best reliever with the game on the line etc. It confounds me, I'm sorry.
  17. Bautista might be a good candidate for DH if they can sign him for reasonable money. The interest in him may not be that high. He has tremendous numbers at Fenway, a .972 OPS and 24 HR in 68 games.
  18. If the Guardians win this game, Tito Francona's postseason record will be: 38-20 .655
  19. Everything that Tito's doing is working, everything is going Cleveland's way. It's one of those magical rolls some teams get on.
  20. As far as last night's game is concerned, Tito's decision to pinch hit for Miller was pretty impactful, wasn't it?
  21. OTOH Tito's move to take Kluber out early in Game 1 could impact tonight's game, and his move to take Tomlin out early last night could impact Game 6, if it gets that far.
  22. Especially when you consider that Lackey is only making about half as much as the highest paid starters like Price.
  23. But we already have Young for left. I like the idea of returning Swihart to catcher.
  24. 100%. 2011 was a bad season for him, and Henry & Lucchino pretty much threw him under the bus for it. There was damage done to his reputation.
