  1. I don't think he did a terrible job this year. Some bad luck with Smith and Kimbrel underperformed. Ziegler was a solid pickup.
  2. Mildly surprised if it's true that there's no interest in bringing Koji back. After he came off the DL he pitched 13 scoreless, 2013-caliber innings. Durability is obviously a concern. An incentive-laden deal would seem to make sense. I'm guessing that Koji wants to pitch again in 2017 especially the way he looked at the end of the year.
  3. Dull presentation aside, I think harmony's numbers support the position that Swihart's trade value isn't very high at the moment. What he does this year could change all that.
  4. No, charges dropped, MLB gave him a 30 day suspension, done deal.
  5. Papi was an incredible bargain, I'm just starting to realize that. His total salaries with the Red Sox over 14 years were about 160 million. The 4 years is what makes EE's projection somewhat reasonable. He's been a 4 WAR player 5 years running despite huge negative defensive numbers. I'm not saying it'll happen. DD has already signaled it probably won't, I guess.
  6. 4/92 for EE actually seems fairly reasonable by today's standards.
  7. In my neighborhood pitching cards was a mano a mano game of high skill between young boys! Two boys each with their collection of baseball cards or hockey cards or whatever they were, would stand a certain distance from a wall. You would each pitch a card low toward the wall. Whoever came closest to the wall was the winner and collected the two cards. A 'leaner' against the wall was the perfect pitch. But if you pitched a leaner first the other guy could knock down your leaner and win. That's all I remember of the rules.
  8. $90M for a reliever. We are really through the looking glass if that happens.
  9. You do have a case against Mr. Buchholz.
  10. I don't think so - not if the 'bonuses' are tied to something like appearances. Remember Napoli's deal in 2013 - it was $5 million base with an additional $8 million available for staying off the DL.
  11. If he looks good in his workouts, $5 million base plus x amount per appearance?
  12. Did anybody pitch cards when they were a kid?
  13. It will be interesting. But not every team is going to have an Andrew Miller and a Cody Allen at their disposal. You have to have a couple of studs to be able to utilize that strategy on a consistent basis.
  14. Hate that one too. But the blind squirrel is worse.
  15. I agree. And I don't blame Tito for overusing him, either. He did what he had to do with Carrasco and Salazar gone, and he almost made it pay off in a title.
  16. I probably would if they made them.
  17. It'll be interesting to see how he does next year after pitching so many innings this year.
  18. Jesus I hate that blind squirrel expression.
  19. Yes, I certainly expect DD to do his DD (due diligence).
  20. I cheer for the laundry too, but to me, like it or not, the laundry includes the suits (Dombrowski).
  21. The bottom line is, nothing can be done about what's been done.
  22. I suspect they will hang on to Schwarber. He was very impressive in his mini-comeback. He seems to have a fantastic attitude too. I have a feeling he might be a great hitter.
  23. There's no question that the current version of Andrew Miller is a very valuable commodity. He had a 3.9 bWAR this year and a 2.9 fWAR. When you combine his lights-out numbers with his ability to pitch more than an inning at a time, that's definitely a weapon.
