  1. I have to say I'm impressed with what I read about the new luxury tax thresholds and rates. I see an attempt at some fiscal sanity there, without going overboard about it.
  2. Was this really necessary LOL His World Series line of 412/500/471 in 20 PA would have been more meaningful...
  3. Good points.
  4. I think somebody already proposed this basic scenario: Opening Day catching tandem of Leon and Vazquez. Swihart works on his catching game in Pawtucket. If Swihart looks good, he replaces Leon or Vazquez at some point.
  5. I think the right wording would be 'He's got too much potential for that.'
  6. I thought the Giants offered Pablo the same deal as we did, or close to it.
  7. The Yanks will probably get him.
  8. Shaughnessy, what a surprise.
  9. Yes, but if you go to the internet forums for other teams (as mvp went to the SF Giants site) I'm sure you'll find similar complaining and badmouthing by fans. I've done it myself and found it amusing that they sounded just like us. People aren't that different from one place to another. (There are lots of reasonable people on every team's site too.) Its all part of internet behavior.
  10. It's too much of a generalization. Boston is known as a tough place to play, there's no doubt about that. But if the fans and media are as bad as you're implying, all these free agents wouldn't be coming here in the first place. Unless you're saying that the players who sign here are so ignorant that they have no clue what they're getting into.
  11. It sounds like a deal should get done though.
  12. Yeah, things are pretty dead right now with the CBA still not finalized.
  13. I'd love to have Quintana. But the cost will be so steep we probably can't do it. Even if you traded JBJ for Quintana straight up, you're basically trading 5 WAR for 5 WAR. And you have to give up a lot more than that. We'll probably have to stick with focusing on DH and the bullpen.
  14. What does this mean exactly? Do you have any specific examples of these fan solutions?
  15. I think Rasmus already fell off the cliff. In his 6 years with Toronto and Houston he averaged 230/297/428.
  16. TJ surgery - he'll miss the entire 2017 season.
  17. Everybody please just let that character stuff go and stick to baseball, or YOTN is going to just lock this thread.
  18. He also got Iggy for Avisail Garcia. That looks like a win.
  19. The Travis trade does look bad. But that's about the only one I can see as a clear-cut bad one.
  20. Maybe the fans are too harsh, but it's not a good look for a third baseman when you have a huge slab of blubber hanging over your belt and you seem to be having difficulty making the most routine fielding plays, especially after the positive report about your condition. I also wonder what Pablo was thinking choosing Boston over San Fran where he was so successful and popular. The money reportedly wasn't much different.
  21. Pablo did look pretty bad last spring. And the team showed pretty quickly that they weren't too excited about the way he looked and that Shaw was competing with him for the opening day spot.
  22. Pablo still has the opportunity to get fans back on his side. It's all on him.
  23. VMart could be a valid alternative to Beltran, but only if the Tigers aren't looking for much in return.
  24. Good point.
  25. Matt Cain - one more example of how hard pitching is on the human arm. I would have thought he'd have a long career. Seemed like a big strong guy with a normal throwing motion.
