  1. The man of the moment in golf is Justin Thomas. He came into this week's Hawaiian Open having won 2 of his last 3 events, and started off with a cool little 59 followed by a 64. Not a big guy at all but hits it a mile thanks to some insane clubhead speed.
  2. The Maple Laffs (or Make Believes) appear to be finally heading in the right direction...
  3. Trout's salary for tax purposes is 24.08 million. He's under control until the end of 2020. They probably will trade him before then, the only question is when. Maybe they start entertaining bids next offseason.
  4. He's in purgatory, but he can console himself with the thought that he'll be paid about 50 million dollars to be there between now and 2020.
  5. Hopefully Price gets another shot at the postseason this year. Needless to say there will be a lot of stories about his lack of postseason success beforehand.
  6. Price Slasher! Hi User Name, good to see you.
  7. I was trying to be funny, but I was having a bad night at the keyboard.
  8. Hey, how did Pablo end up in the 2017 Rotation thread?
  9. Did well with the compensation picks at least...Swihart & Bradley.
  10. Ellsbury and Papelbon walked after 2011, but so did Theo.
  11. He got randomized last year!
  12. Kimmi!
  13. I would speculate loss of bat speed, probably from simple deterioration of physical strength and/or coordination. That has sent the careers of many hitters to premature terminations.
  14. We will pick up another reliever or 2, the only question is will we be able to wait to the deadline to do it. We really can't afford another name brand premium reliever either in dollars or more prospects. It'll be one of DD's challenges this year.
  15. So tell us how you define a sport. We've still got a few months to kill here.
  16. Man, I wonder where that stupid, sexist expression came from sometimes LOL
  17. But Taz was a mediocre pitcher last year so replacing him is not much of an issue.
  18. I thought you were a 'throw stuff at the wall' advocate. Do you mean scrap heap types?
  19. I wish the crazy bugger the best too.
  20. Yep. Rasslin', runnin', jumpin', swimmin' and such. Only events you can perform in a pair of shorts.
  21. Well, if we really wanted to purify what a sport is we'd be down to the sports engaged in by the ancient Romans and Greeks.
  22. I think there have been times when I've been dismissive about certain sports too, including auto racing. But auto racing is plenty demanding. You're not just out for a Sunday drive. You're trying to go as fast as possible and beat the other drivers while making sure you and your car make it through the race in one piece. A lot of physical skill and mental acuity would obviously be required. I certainly wouldn't want to attempt it.
  23. I think it does, but some folks seem to have an issue with the fact that there's a machine involved.
  24. Your definition of sport seems pretty narrow. Regardless, it's widely accepted as a sport. A race car driver was SI's Sportsman of the Year in 1973.
  25. Physical stress plus racing pretty much seals the deal.
