  1. It's not easy to replace them as prospects. But we have a well-stacked team for the next 2-3 years without them.
  2. If Pablo is still a blimp Dombrowski will look bad for shipping both Shaw and Moncada. Let's hope he's got someone who can vouch that Pablo's shaping up.
  3. Stop. You don't have to say it 1,000 times.
  4. There always has to be some rain on the parade.
  5. When we face a lefty starter, Young can DH and Hanley can play 1B.
  6. FWIW Cafardo says the Sox are getting a lot of calls, not on Buch but on Pomeranz, which makes sense.
  7. Washington gave up 3 pitching prospects: Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and Dane Dunning.
  8. Theo is in Win Now mode.
  9. Did Wilbur happen to mention Rizzo?
  10. Quite possibly. It can't be said that Ben didn't have big payrolls to work with though.
  11. Quintana is excellent, not sure he's that excellent. You trying to clean us out of prospects altogether?
  12. I'll never do it again, if you never say things like get the duckboats ready.
  13. Cherington did have a win-now mandate of some sort, when you consider the signings of Hanley and Panda. Of course we can always speculate whose idea those signings really was.
  14. Thanks Mr. Shaughnessy.
  15. Our 2012-2015 was a first in history and unlikely to be repeated. A total anomaly.
  16. In your example, if we go over the limit by $40 million, how the heck do we ever get back under again? How do we keep Betts and Bogaerts? I think it makes more sense to be around the threshold or a little over it every year, just as we've been doing, pretty much.
  17. Yeah but B is kind of an impossible scenario.
  18. Please explain exactly why resetting the tax rate this year will benefit us for 'years to come'.
  19. There are no guarantees of winning the ring no matter what you do. The Cubs were the favorites this year and they won, but look at what they had to do, coming back from 3-1 in the WS with the last 2 games in Cleveland, winning in extra innings in Game 7. The more times you make it to the playoffs the better your chances.
  20. BC made some blunders, but I don't get the comparison to running the team like they were the Rays. He signed a bunch of free agents in 2013 that helped us win the World Series. He spent a fortune before the 2015 season. It was the combination of the spending and the crappy results that got him axed.
  21. There are no more dynasties in baseball anyway. Your team was the last repeat winner in 2000. 16 straight one-and-done since then.
  22. I'll be one of the few lamenting if/when they trade Buch, I guess. C'mon, keep the little bastard around for just one more year. He might come in handy.
  23. What else can you do for fun if you're a Mariners fan? Even if you're a generally level-headed guy like harmony, there has to be some underlying bitterness there.
  24. He was in fact drafted by the Red Sox. Traded him for Boddicker in 1988.
  25. Maybe. Personally I don't think it's a big deal if they go over the limit a bit, because if they can get back under the limit for 2018 the rate will reset then.
