Bogaerts hit 21 homers last year, and his 2017 SLG is now up to .470. Don't be surprised if he ends up with 21 homers again this year.

I respectfully disagree (and I don't give a damn about bunting). I think many baseball games do entail a fair number of impactful decisions. It's not so much about strategy as it is about NOT SCREWING UP. You do have to know when to pull the starting pitcher. In the modern game you do have to know the 3 or more relievers you're going to use after that and in what order. Baseball has one unique strategic element in that when you remove a player he's gone from that game forever. So you have to be careful about exactly when you use pinch hitters and pinch runners. Frankly I'm getting tired of all this diminishment of the importance of good in-game management.

Maybe making good in-game decisions also has a positive impact on the clubhouse, by suggesting to the players that their manager isn't a complete nitwit.

It really is hard to accept that there's no variance in relief pitching deployment. That would suggest that it's hogwash that Francona did a great job with his use of Andrew Miller last year. But we're told that the 'relief ace' concept has great merit. What are we supposed to believe?

Baseball is an amazing game. In the first 30 innings of the Oakland series we scored 10 runs. In the 21 innings since then we have scored 30 runs.

I agree about the bunting, but I think last night's 7th inning actually gave a good illustration of moves and non-moves that can make a difference. The Texas manager left Dyson in far too long. Farrell used 2 pinch hitters and they both got hits. The combined effect was several runs.

Personally I don't think Kimbrel warming up with a 4 run lead is panicky. A 4 run lead in Fenway can vanish in about 5 minutes.

Sam Travis Getting his first start against Texas - how perfect.

He's a streaky fellow to be sure. As are many power hitters. I see no reason to be particularly down on him at this point in time though. His overall numbers for 2016 and 2017 are good.

Hanley is hitting 288/403/481 in May. Staying on the field is his main issue.
