    The numbers are cruel though. With the Red Sox he has a cumulative fWAR of -2.2 and a bWAR of -1.7. 95 million for a guy who has been worse than a replacement player.

    The numbers with RISP generally correct themselves. We're getting guys on base, that's not the problem. But the lack of power is.

    It's not the team's toughness I'm concerned about right now, it's the hitting, especially the pop. Our offense has been absolutely anemic. 1 guy with more than 1 home run - and that's Pablo of all people.

    As a team we have 8 HR's in 18 games. We have 1 guy with more than 1 - Pablo. The next lowest total in the big leagues is 13. The MLB average is 20.

    Having a pitch that's adversely affected by moisture in the air is not a good thing when your team plays about 100 of its games in Boston, Baltimore and New York.

    I don't use that expression myself. But David Ortiz is the name most often cited as Mr. Clutch of the championship teams.

    Well, you're right, Pedroia is as tough as they come. Is one tough guy enough though?

    To win the World Series, of course, you have to make the playoffs and then win 3 playoff series...that total success over the long haul is what I meant.

    LOL If you really wanted to tackle this, I suppose you could start by looking at recent World Series champs and identifying who the 'tough guys' were and what they did to show their toughness... Best of luck.

    Can't please everybody, that's for sure. What some people who just pop in here don't realize is that we have beaten to death just about every possible Red Sox topic there is here, it's just that it's done in a handful of threads.
