  1. As I've said, a guy with the name Sam Travis can't miss.
  2. Well yeah, but I don't think there are any indications LL ever said anything like that. The narrative on LL was that he liked the sexy, splashy, fan-pleasing signings. The Lester fiasco did nothing but piss fans off.
  3. We won all 4 of his starts - he had the Luck o' the Irish!
  4. It's enough to make you pine for Sean O'Sullivan.
  5. If you're going to pin the Lester fiasco on any one person I think Henry is the most logical candidate. It was him that made the statement about pitchers over 30, not Lucchino.
  6. Well I too am baffled why they decided to start Velazquez last night. Makes very little sense on the face of it. I've been trying to find some info on why the decision was made but I'm coming up empty so far.
  7. We might have to give DD some props for Abad. The guy has been pretty good lately.
  8. Farrell moved Beni from the 2 spot to the 4 spot starting with the second game of the Minny series. The lineup changes were made because the team was having a horrendous time scoring runs. They've been scoring more runs since they changed the lineup. Beni went nuts the first 3 games at cleanup, then suddenly went into this hitless streak.
  9. Pretty hard to top that one.
  10. Thank you. The defense rests.
  11. Let me ask this then. What precedent is there for Lucchino making a lowball offer like this? Usually he's being accused of the 'splashy' signings. This was the complete opposite.
  12. I'm guessing that Ortiz saw in Drew a much more complete baseball player than he was himself, or than Manny was. I'm also guessing Ortiz was mainly referring to players he played with and got to see on a day-to-day basis.
  13. Pomeranz is pitching Friday night in Oakland. That's a perfect setup for him. If he doesn't pitch well Friday we'll know we're screwed.
  14. But what is the actual evidence that Lucchino was the one primarily responsible for the Lester fiasco?
  15. I find it a little unfair to use Lucchino as the scapegoat for all the bad stuff. Most of it is pure speculation with no actual documentation whatsoever.
  16. Prior to the Lester offer, of course, Henry had made some comments indicating that long term contracts for pitchers over 30 were a very bad idea.
  17. They shouldn't have let it happen then.
  18. I don't think it's that absurd...there's a major caveat involved...'when JD wanted to play'.
  19. Ben left behind a combination of trash and jewels.
  20. By Peter Abraham Globe Staff December 10, 2014 SAN DIEGO — Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington wished Jon Lester well on Wednesday and said his only regret was not having more of a chance to negotiate with the lefthander before he was traded in July. “We would have liked to have had more chance for dialogue prior to the season,” said Cherington. “Why that didn’t happen, maybe there’s more than one reason. I think we can certainly learn from the process.” Lester agreed to terms with the Cubs on a six-year, $155 million deal early Wednesday morning, rejecting a $135 million offer from the Sox. The pitcher personally called Cherington at 1 a.m. (ET) with the news. Cherington said the team’s initial offer of four years and $70 million was meant as a starting point for negotiations. Lester and his agents instead chose not to negotiate once the season started.
  21. Cherington was part of the FO's public defense of the negotiations with Lester. He essentially complained about Lester's side not making a counter proposal to the 4/70 offer.
  22. First of all I'd like to see the exact quote from Ortiz...
