  1. Totally embarrassing.
  2. I would assume it gets a little more difficult because balls are being hit a little harder on average. Then there's the 'bright lights' factor that nobody can really measure.
  3. Ben Cherington is pretty much a mystery IMO. Nobody knows exactly what moves he made and what moves he didn't make for us. After he's replaced by DD he gets a job at a university and then he becomes VP of baseball operations for the Jays. If he had gone on to take another GM job we might be able to judge him better.
  4. Cross your fingers and hope that Devers provides a spark to the offense.
  5. Who are you quoting?
  6. That's now commonly referred to as 'rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.'
  7. Yes, unless you're Steve Blass or Daniel Bard.
  8. But how much rest do starting pitchers need these days? The days of 4 man rotations and complete games are long gone, of course. Now a starter goes every 5th day, for 6 innings. And these guys just had the All-Star Break. I don't really get it, myself.
  9. Especially in baseball. Such a difficult and quirky game.
  10. Pedro Beato...nicely done.
  11. Finally moved him down.
  12. Hot as fish grease, I like it.
  13. Fred's actually quite harmless.
  14. Anyone who suggests trading JBJ is drunk, high, joking or a combination thereof.
  15. That could be. But I can't help thinking there were better options than sending Fister out there. Johnson pitched quite decently last time out. I'm just really having a hard time wrapping my head around this one. It almost seems like they were trying to do right by Fister, giving him another chance instead of jettisoning him.
  16. That overvaluing of relievers seems to be the way it is in baseball right now, as evidenced by moves like our trade for Thornburg.
  17. Miniscule sample obviously, but Lin posted a 0.5 bWAR in about 1/8 of a full season.
  18. Here are Fister's numbers for his last 3 outings: 10.2 IP 16 H 15 R 13 ER 9 BB 1 HBP 3 HR Hitters .372/.464/.674 1.139 OPS This is the guy we sent to the mound when we could have sent Sale on normal rest.
  19. I have to agree. Chalk this one up for Johnny boy. The extra rest damn well better pay off.
  20. On top of being clearly washed up, Fister was rusty as heck too, having only thrown 53 pitches since July 5.
  21. Very very aggravating. If Fister had pitched a little better in his previous games this might have made some sense. But he was horrible in his last 2 games and he was predictably horrible today. It goes down as a game we should have won easily turned into a gift to the Jays.
  22. Not a good day in the annals of the team's decision-making.
