    I think that would have been a waste. Instead of which he helped us win a game last night.

    When I say mostly I mean I think that's where most of the increase in other teams' numbers has come from.

    Personally I think whatever injury issues Hanley has had this year have been the 'nagging' kind. If he had anything serious he wouldn't be playing as much as he has. And he can still pound the ball when he does connect. I actually like Hanley in spite of it all.

    I think it would have been extremely hard to trade Hanley regardless. An aging DH with erratic numbers and recurring injury issues and that stupid vesting option.

    That begs the question of how did so many other offenses improve while ours didn't. Mostly because of the home run ball, methinks.

    He was out of action for almost 2 months. He threw 21 pitches Sept 17 and 40 last night. Probably not enough time to ramp up to much more than 50 pitches. Farrell sounds pretty excited about having him available to pitch multiple innings out of the pen.

    Hanley's OPS+ this year is 94. If he's this bad next year we should be able to do what we want without the union objecting.

    There's something seriously wrong with Tanaka. Take a look at the pitch Russell Martin homered on. You could see from the moment it left Tanaka's hand that it was on a flat trajectory headed for the middle of the plate like he was just laying it in there.

    I wanted Sale to start that game against the Birds because I felt it significantly enhanced our chances to win the game. If we lost the game the Yanks would be only 2 back with 10 to go. I did not want them to have any more chance than they had already did. Don't f*** around. It's pretty simple...it's not North Korean rocket science.

    Personally, I see no reason why a division winner deserves a better break than a wild card team with a better record than the division winner. Divisions are just arbitrary groupings designed to promote artificial rivalries and reduce travel costs. Like everything else Bud Selig did, it's all about the dollars. Bud was good at that part of his job, I have to admit.

    There's not much choice but to keep him and make sure the option doesn't vest.
