  1. It's sort of the reverse of 2013 when everyone had good years.
  2. Not much in baseball truly mystifies me anymore. You just have to accept that it's the nature of the game to be mystifying.
  3. Yeah, not arguing that, but the principle in effect would seem to be that the team gets punished for the actions of its employees...which is probably on pretty solid legal ground.
  4. The Pats were fined and lost draft picks for Deflategate, right?
  5. Um, it depends how hard you get punched? Punches have killed people.
  6. That's kind of oversimplifying don't you think? A lot of pitchers have been successful with 2 pitches. Hell, Mariano Rivera only had one.
  7. I made it into the 18th before giving up. My 'find out the next morning' mojo has actually been very good this year.
  8. mvp and dogs who like Quarter Pounders mojo!
  9. Yes but the .821 only applies if you put the ball in play. I think we've been swinging at more first pitches recently, but I could be wrong about that.
  10. For me, more to the point about Estrada is that, like many pitchers having s***** years, there are some good games mixed in there. On August 10 he blanked the Yanks for 7. Now if you want to say we've been making too many s***** pitchers look good this year, I wouldn't argue with that.
  11. Whatever they want. And let us know all the details of course.
  12. That's baseball for ya.
  13. Which is way below the MLB average of .936.
  14. One interesting little nugget: The MLB average OPS for PA's in which the hitter swung at the first pitch is .745. The MLB average OPS for PA's in which the hitter took the first pitch is .755.
  15. I'm not going to look up every team, but the MLB team average is 10.9%.
  16. Can we break our streak of scoreless first innings at 13?
  17. Morales is hot. Can't give him much good to hit right now.
  18. Brentz's cup-of-coffee numbers for the Red Sox aren't even that bad...SSS needless to say.
  19. Here's where you can't win though, because if Farrell was giving Sale a bunch of extra days off he'd be getting roasted for looking ahead when we need to be winning games right now.
  20. No Sox fans on this board want the implosion. But there are a few good reasons to worry about one.
  21. I don't know what the reason for our decline is. But I do suspect that the ball being juiced has a lot to do with overall run scoring increasing across MLB. A 10% increase in home run balls is just a tad fishy IMO.
  22. And you're no different - 'implosion' is a pretty strong word considering we're still in first.
  23. MLB teams are averaging 1.27 HR per game this year compared to 1.16 last year. That's a 10% increase. That's huge.
  24. Not necessarily. I think if you look at the overall improvements in offensive numbers most of it is coming from the home run ball. If our team really is just a bunch of single hitters we're not going to benefit quite as much from the ball being juiced.
